Retro Rewind: Billboard Hot 100 This Week In 1998 #TBT

You're Still The One - Shania Twain1-thatgrapejuice

Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’  allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we’re still jamming to ‘You’re Still the One’ – the most successful crossover single of country Queen Shania Twain.  Lifted from Twain’s tertiary release, ‘Come On Over,’ ‘One’ is not only widely recognized as the song that launched the songstress to pop radio and audiences, but also helped propel its parent album to heights of 40 million+ sold (making it the best-selling album by a female ever).

While ‘One’ never actually reached #1 on the Hot 100 due to being held at bay by Brandy & Monica‘s massive hit ‘The Boy is Mine’, it still etched its way into history books and hearts – ours included.  Tuck in below to see who joined B-Rocka, Mo, and Shania this week in 1998 in the upper rankings of the Hot 100:

I loved and still love “My all”, Mariah’s best song.

  10. Stephy July 14, 2016

Shania Twain was one of the best looking female artists ever. Just beautiful, through and through. Vocally, she was blah. Her legendary album Come On Over is a classic. She was the Taylor Swift of the 90’s basically. Madonna & Mariah are legends. Both of those songs are classics. My All peaked at #1 for 1 week, and stayed in the top 10 for 13 weeks. It’s one of her best selling digital selling songs of the new generation. And, it’s one of her most streamed songs of the new generation. Impressive for a song that was released in 1998.

    • JOHNVIDAL July 15, 2016

The Taylor of the 90s but with a good voice and better music too. Taylor cannot sing at all.

  11. Grande the Way July 14, 2016

I feel like My All gets lost in Mariah’s sea of #1s but its one of my favorites from her. The Boy Is Mine is my favorite song from Brandy too

  12. King B July 14, 2016

SHANIA!!! That’s one of the best classic I’ve ever heard besides My heart Will Go ON and IWALY! But sadly, it peaked at number 2, if I’m not mistaken? She was blocked by… Brandy?

  13. Royalkev July 14, 2016

Not that BranMo slay! That song was everywhere and I was on Bran s*** like nothing you ever seen! I loved that Usher song too! ‘I do, any and everything you want to’. Usher Raymond cam ethrough! . .. I was also playing that Jon B song well into the ’00’s. I must be missing R&B cause this chart is making me feel some kind of way! Btw, I was here for that country song by Shania too! #GoodMusic #GoodCharts

    • Royalkev July 14, 2016

Goodness, Janet’s I Get Lonely is one of my all-time favorite by her! This was a good year!

      • MUSICHEAD July 14, 2016

That I Get Lonely video is still the s***! My God Janet did that!!!

      • Royalkev July 14, 2016

^ Yes! One of THE sexiest ever!

  14. JOHNVIDAL July 15, 2016

    Real talents everywhere. And diversity.
Unlike now. I see Rihanna will probably have yet one more forgettable #1 with a song that wasn´t even in her flop album and is yet one more feature. The industry is a joke, Rihanna being the biggest example.

Anyway, I don´t believe for a second Shania has the biggest album ever by a female. It was so huge yes. But not bigger than The Bodyguard. In countries like Spain for example it´s not f****** comparable the success The Bodyguard got with the “cute” success Come on Over had. Just no. And tehre are more countries like that. Whitney slayed the whole planet a la Michael Jackson. Not to emntion after her death she sold like 1 million copies more in the USA alone from that album. I don´t believe Come on Over is above that not even for a second. Love “You´re still the one” btw. But that year Celine killed everybody with “My Heart Will Go On” winning the grammys and all.

    • King z July 15, 2016

Sorry to burst your bubble Hun, but Come on over is the bet selling female
      Album.

Bodyguard, tho attributed to Whitney, is NOT a Whitney album. It’s a soundtrack.

Come on over is an studio album
