Despite an onslaught of new releases from some of the day’s top artists, it seems the 2016 Billboard 200 chart is in highest favor of the releases of Drake, Beyonce, Adele, and, of course, Rihanna. The diva eight opus, ‘Anti,’ has proven itself a streaming force like none other as evidenced by its continued buoyancy near or in the top 10 of the tally. This week, 7 months after its release, the set has bounced back into the top 10 after a brief slip out.
Similarly, Ariana Grande‘s critically acclaimed tertiary project, ‘Dangerous Woman,’ may be her first to miss the top spot upon its debut in May, but that hasn’t stopped the project from keeping tenancy in the album chart’s top 20 thanks to some serious love for its singles ‘Into You’ and the Nicki Minaj-assisted ‘Side To Side.’

Great job to all music (except drake) was great this year. Best album by an artist thus far is Solo. I’m thankful she released now because Lemonade would have outshine her efforts because the media only cares about Bey (not her fault but at a commercial stand point…) but she always beast and I think this album would make her force of her own. I doubt Lemonade will sell that well if it was available on every streaming platform. A lot of people don’t have Tidal so they have to buy if they want to listen to it. While with Rihanna you can listen to it everywhere without buying and that’s the difference.
In today music industry streaming is more as important as pure sales… if 1500=1 you need to have million of people listen to it in order to have big gains with your total sales…an average album can be listen 32 times a day.
Not only there is money in streams just as pure sales but there is also a way of showing that people like your music..
It can be free but nobody will listen to you for free if your music is wack.
Plus streaming platform have to pay for an artist catalogue so we have a transaction it’s not free music.
Rihanna is a streaming but it does not diminish her achievement she have 6 platinium album in the us without pure sales, people really like to forget that Rihanna is out since 2005 and there were no streaming at this times.
It’s all about what marketing strategy you choose by knowing your strengh and weakness.

It’s funny how people say a #1 album means something… since when did having your album debut at #1 have such meaning? If you look through music history many many many great albums didn’t go #1 but still sold more than beyonce or drake or Rihanna or any newcomers. At the end of the day it’s understanding your fans and what they want and making them happy and the music you like. Chart position is overrated and something trust me I’m sure these stars aren’t looking at too closely.

Well I just checked the iTunes chart and Ariana discounted the price of her album by about 50% so that’s probably why it moved up the charts same with her two single she dropped both the prices down to 69 cents recently. It was an act of desperation so no need for celebration lol

But don´t act as if her many grammy wins (in secondary categories) aren´t due to lack of strong competition. Bey having so many grammys is proof of her being good in an era when not that many people are that good more than anything. Legendary talents and albums and songs don´t have any grammys cause they are from a time when competition was crazy and quality was all over mainstream. It´s obvious.
Like I said, she´s killing it. She´s doing way better now with her last 3 albums than before. Now she is one of the few biggest sellers, in the 00s none of her albums became one of the biggest sellers. She was going to need a change of direction sooner or later after 2008-09. And she did it, so congrats to her. Her last 3 albums are her best artistically. She´s having real success.
