Chart Check [Billboard 200]: ‘Suicide Squad’ Soundtrack’s Silent Slayage

This week’s music headlines have undoubtedly been dominated by chart champion Solange and her much deserved/long-awaited victory ‘A Seat at the Table.’  A critical homerun, the album – featuring the likes of Lil’ Wayne, The Dream, and so many more – mirrored that fanfare with an impressive 72k units shifted its first week of availability.  The feat not only made it the week’s top-seller, but it also came as the singer’s best first week sales to date.

But, as the industry continues to sing Solo’s praises, there’s another chart slayer that continues its behind the scenes slayage in silence – ‘The Suicide Squad’ soundtrack.  Developed in support of the 2016 Will Smith-led film of the same name (which has grossed over $740 million since its August premiere), the soundtrack’s run on the Billboard 200 also comes as nothing to shake a stick at.

Unleashed on August 5th, the album debuted at #1 the next week and has not once left the top 6 since. To add, at the end of September the RIAA announced it was the first and only soundtrack to go gold this year.  Now, some two months after its release, the official motion picture soundtrack has moved an additional 38,000 SPS units and refuses to loosen its tight grip on the chart’s upper rankings.

Who woulda thought we’d see Solange land a #1 on Billboard Hot 200?
She’s so underrated, it’s almost sad.
So creative and yet so different from her sister.

    • CommonSense October 13, 2016

I think you meant *so creative, which is the opposite of her sister*.
      .
Congrats Solo! Well deserved and I hope it has longevity.
      .
Rihanna is still in the top 15 after nearly a year. Good stuff!

But yeah, happy for Solange. Surprised that she didn’t come out in New Orleans for the FWT to sing something.

  3. Tori October 13, 2016

Umm, congratulations but I have a question: are you going to start praising Solange in EVERY post like y’all do Beyoncé? Like this is a serious question!

    • HailLegendBeysus October 13, 2016

Oh most definitely! Brace yourself! It’s a Knowles praising Fam on TGJ! ?

      • Tori October 14, 2016

It’s sick and thirsty. I’m a Bey fan but OH MY GAWD, SHE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW WHAT THIS SITE IS! Let it go sometimes.

  4. Rima October 13, 2016

Loved the movie and the soundtrack is good, glad its selling very well.

  6. HailLegendBeysus October 13, 2016

Again, Congrats to Solange. The album truly deserved it’s #1 placement!
    .
Also that S****** Squad Soundtrack is everything! Makes sense why it’s performing so well!

  7. Danzou October 13, 2016

Beyoncé fans are so fake. There’s no way solo should’ve gotten number one with less than 150000 first week. The fact of the matter is, and don’t get me wrong I LOVE bey, but her fans are threatened by anything remotely better than her. Her fans should be supporting her the same way Janet and Michaels fans supported one another.

    • HailLegendBeysus October 13, 2016

This is the dumbest comment i seen in awhile. No fan base is obligated to support another artist even if their fav supports that artist. If MJ’s fans truly supported her why isn’t her discography sales as big as his. It’s not even a FRACTION of the mans sales. Why did they turn their backs on her after the SuperBowl. MJ still had a pretty descent following after the child molestation allegations. Your just fishing for another way to bring Beyoncé name into something and blame her fanbase for something that just simply isn’t their FAULT!

      • Danzou October 14, 2016

Hail, f*** on somewhere with all of that. Like I said, the jacksons fan base SUPPORTED on another. Even after the allegations as well as after the Super Bowl with decreased sales and all. Boynce fans like you are always deflecting talmbout “no base is obligated to blah blah blah” h** im talmbout YOUR BASE. Lets focus on that. WHY are yall so afraid of admitting when someone else is dragging bey? Im all ears.

      • HailLegendBeysus October 14, 2016

Lmao! There was no deflection. But I see you did by going on about the Hive being “afraid” when someone else is dragging Bey. What’s wrong, can’t give a logical answer as to why Janet doesn’t have a FRACTION of MJ’S sales even tho you claim his Fans supported her. Why aren’t Janets tours massive. MJ sold out 50+ dates in 2009 alone for his comback tour before tragically dying. Where were all these MJ supporters for Janet when she was touring? Since you claim their fan bases supported each other.
        .
I simply stated as to how her fan base shouldn’t be blamed for Solange’s low sales. Most of the GP doesn’t even know Solange makes music and yes that goes for the Hive. You’re comparing apple to oranges. Janet had a massive career all on her own. Solange never had that. Not to mention if Bey’s fan base did indeed go out and purchase her music people would simply say Solange was riding off her success. Im sure Solo is fine not needing or wanting to leech off of Beys core fan base. Also litteraly every major Twitter Bey fan pages with thousands of followers tweeted and encouraged The Hive to stream or purchase ASATT!

      • Danzou October 14, 2016
