Whoopi Goldberg is expanding her creative ‘View.’
Reportedly gearing up to part ways with the ABC series ‘The View’ next year, the actress and political activist has teamed up with Bravo, home to ‘The Real Housewives’ empire, to build original content.
Full story below…
The series’ story takes place in Harlem, New York City and sees a dangerous criminal reunite with her son, who appears to be Caucasian, after he faked his death to start a new life away from the racism his African-American relatives are subjected to.
When he returns, he does so with political ambitions and launches a plan to become Mayor.
Goldberg is expected to portray his mother and will produce the show via her One Ho Productions company alongside its president Tom Leonardis.
Sharing some similarities with Griffin and Scott’s ‘Imitation of Life’, the show will stand as one of two creative journeys Whoopi Goldberg will embark on she prepares to enjoy life away from ‘The View.’
The second?
An Emmett Till biopic.
The film, to be titled simply “Till,” was the beneficiary of a 2014 Kickstarter campaign, which raised over $50,000 to jump-start the production process. Filming is now scheduled to begin next year in Mississippi, so we can assume that financing is in place, or will be sooner than later.
As for casting, Goldberg has said that she wants a relatively unknown actor to play Till, and has her eyes set on Markees Christmas, star of indie crowd-pleaser “Morris from America,” which was released earlier this year.
A premiere date for the Bravo project is yet to be set as it is still in the development stage of its life cycle.
Amitabh Klemm will pen its script.
Unfamiliar with his work? The creative was behind the movies ‘Confessions of a Late Bloomer’, ‘Hawken’, ‘Kinnick’ and ‘The Chive Adventures.‘
