Weaving tales of rage, romance and gleeful optimism is Nicki Minaj‘s debut album ‘Pink Friday.’
A clean and cohesive fusion of Hip-Hop, Pop & R&B, the set soared into the charts in the fourth quarter of 2010 and crushed sales figures scored by her rap peers (male and female) within the first month of its unveiling.
This week, as anticipation for her next studio album reaches fever pitch globally, the star has seen ‘Super Bass’ and ‘Roman’s Revenge’ – the humorous track she penned to mock and blast Lil Kim, reach milestones that extend her lead as the highest-selling and most-streamed lady lyricist of all time.
Good news…
With no new material to whet their appetites, Minaj’s fans swarmed Spotify and Apple Music to scratch their itch by streaming her biggest Hip-Hop hits.
On the latter, the renewed interest in her art saw her become one of its trending acts following the release of Cardi B‘s ‘Invasion of Privacy‘.
As for the former? New gains for ‘Roman’ and even grander growth for ‘Bass.’
On Sunday morning, the former crossed the 17 million streams marker on the platform and today- just over 24 hours later- that number sits at the 17,608,491 point after it accumulated 608,491 spins globally within that period of time.
However, the real star of the show is the cut ‘Super Bass’ which enjoyed a streaming spike last week and has now been streamed 175 million times and sits just a few thousand spins away from kissing the 176,000,000 marker.
With this, Minaj bags herself $700,000 from the platform but may be peeved to learn that that the number would have risen to $4.9 million dollars had it received the same amount of spins on TIDAL, the company she owns shares in.
Minaj has sold over 8 million copies of ‘Bass’ in the U.S alone, over 600,000 units in the United Kingdom and a further 420,000 in Australia…without streams.
She has sold over 25 million singles as a lead artist and 60 million as a featured act.
Hopefully one day she will have a classic. She has skills but makes absolute trash, yet popular music. Before she retires she needs to make one classic record. She has zero to her credit
I mean it depends on who you asking. What type of record you think she needs to make to be considered “classic”
I think moment for life, by my side, in flames can be considered classic.
This is a very hard one because nicki is a popular artist. You wouldn’t necessarily associate her music with the word “classic”. Same with other popular artist like Beyonce and Drake. I can’t think of 1 Beyonce song I would call classic. You see where I’m coming from?
Beyonce has single ladies…. and just for the simple fact of the video and that whole moment, that is a classic.. but you’re a rihanna stan so I won’t get that deep into it because she has no classics either and u love her and that’s fine. A classic, like I stated below, is something that the general public would consider a classic… none of those songs you named except” moment” , the public knows and nobodies saying that besides specifically fans of hers… nobody will bump “moment” in. 30 years…. nobodies bumpin it now…
He fact that you think single ladies is classic says it call. The jones really write themselves lolol.
Again Beyoncé’s “music” can never be co sidered classic. Lol at you bringing her video into this. She depends too heavily on videos to support her lacking music. Single ladies was nothing but a cheap catchy hook ladies anthem that became huge. Not a classic boo.
And you speak of rihanna…I promise you, mark my word. 30 yrs from now more people will be singing and sampling more from Rihanna’s catelog than Beyoncé’s.
There are thousands of videos online: gays, little kids, grandmas, white black Spanish, fellow stars performing single ladies…. taking the time to learn the routine, learn the lyrics, go out and buy the outfits and perform the song… not a couple… thousands. that is EXACTLY what a classic is. You are always so quick to give your opinion of music but you have no idea of what music is. Sit this one out bae, you’re a rihanna stan,.. you stan mediocrity , and that’s fine… do u boo. You just don’t do music, u thought 2pac was the first IDGAF artist, before rihanna…. you’re a joke that writes itself. If you wanna comment, do some research boo.
That’s called popular. Popular does not equal Classic. Asshole. Single ladies is not a classic song. There’s no argument here
A movement is a classic honey…. it wasn’t just popular it was a movement… rihanna is “popular”, she’s not a movement/ classic. There you go, class dismissed. You don’t get to define standards when you stan for a girl who is known for being mediocre. You’re on team mediocre. Live it learn it love it and stay in your lane- fashion…. u can’t sit in a musicians convo boo
A classic record! simple! which she has not, we dont remeber half of her music a few months later! her music is not timeless!
@to ny AND THAT was my only point… then the rihanna fan came in like they don’t idolize a Bih who gets outsung by movie rookies on American idol Spain…. it’s sad you can be so hypnotized by pïśs poor talent then try to critique…. look at your fav… she can’t sing. she can’t dance.. BUH BYE
Crazy In Love and Single Ladies are classics that EVERYONE knows just about every word to, but you really tried it.
And to be clear, a classic is NOT defined by sales nor what the hardcore STANS(delusional) say… its foes by the general public and longevity and specific
impact that a song has 2,5,12 , years afterwards.
Yeah because single ladies have so much impact 10 yrs later. Lol people barely know that song was ever recorded. Much like most of Beyonce catchy women anthems songs that no one plays 3 months after its release. Chile. Lol
No musicians reference rihanna. She is a non musicians inspiration. How u in the industry’s 15 yrs and you SUCK live… still? Poor her
Kanye West interrupted the class with Taylor for single ladies… Adele interrupted the Grammys and tore her Grammy apart for bey….. two musical greats… who interrupted anything for rihanna? Oh ok… nobody… cause nobody cares
Y’all don’t pay attention to Metamucil or whatever his name is. Beyoncé’s irreplaceable, crazy in love, baby boy, single ladies, halo, me, myself, and I are ALL classics, just to name a few. No one is going to be 65 years old at a family reunion rap singing, “b**** betta have my money”. Lmao!! But they will be singing “to the left, to the left,”. Bey should’ve let LA Reid send Rihbillygoat back to Barbados and gave Tierra Marie the spotlight. Someone who could actually sing. Bey just had to save a h**! Lmao!! But oh well, wishful thinking.
@alwx you’re a stan… none of those songs you mentioned are classics. But I love all those songs tho. Great songs
Except single ladies because of the video and performance and maybe crazy in love
You are beyond delusional. Literally everyone knows Single Ladies and it’s still played at weddings, bachelorette parties, and everything in between. It’s a true classic.
@jasmine yes i am a Stan. However, i know classics stand the test of time. Those songs I’ve mentioned are classics to the masses. You have your opinion and i have mine. At the end of the day, she’s legendary and nothing or no one will change that. ??♂️
Chile.. ?
700,000….. she should have gotten at least a. million
Rihanna is a Legend, breaking Legends records and she has great music, that it factor and a successful business owner who gives back to the community. She don’t have to sing or dance the best, all she has to be is the phenomenal woman she is, Blessed ??
HER fans had a streaming party on the day of cardi’s release. Check the superbass hashtag on instagram.
