Rihanna was really the last black girl to blow nd thats because her sound was unique nd had a unique look. These girls gotta do something to set them apart. Making music just does not cut it anymore. Boo’d Up is great for a throwback but where in the HELL were the Grammy voters when tons of R&B classics were being released in the late 80’s and early 90’s? HER overrated? She plays like 5 different instruments, writes all her own music and can sing her b*** off in studio and live. She is the literal meaning of a musician. She’s janets fav and Janet did a whole entire IG post expressing HER’s musical genius, how her music helped Janet’s through her pregnancy and that’s its her fav album that she knows every word to every song. H.E.R. is talented but just because you are proficient in an instrument doesn’t make you God’s gift. Haven’t heard a single song of hers i connect with. Furthermore – the whole strum a guitar twice on a live performance is old. If you playing the instrument isn’t essential to the song then keep it. We don’t need gimmicks. Ella Mai has a cool tone but the entire album was 1 note, and even she couldn’t identify with “whatchamacallit” saying she’d never cheat, so …keep it.
Also, Janet’s discography will forever destroy anyone’s so it’s hard to even include her in the conversation.
