Jay-Z is tributing George Floyd in a major way.
As reported, the mogul personally telephoned Minnesota governor Tim Walz demanding justice for Floyd – an unarmed Black man who lost his life after police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes.
With international fury reaching fever pitch and protests amplifying by the day, Jay and his Roc Nation imprint have taken out full-page newspaper ads honoring Floyd.
Details after the jump…
The ad, which featured quotes from Martin Luther King Jr, ran in today’s editions of The New York Times, The Denver Post, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Austin American Statement, The Orlando Sentinel and The Atlanta Journal Constitution, and many more publications.
The letter is signed by Jay, along with the parents of Botham Jean, DJ Henry and Antwon Rose II — young black men all tragically killed by police.
Other signatures included Charlamagne Tha God, Van Jones, Angela Rye, an attorney for the Floyd family, activists from organizations like The Innocence Project and Until Freedom, and more.
Word is that more ads will run tomorrow (June 3rd) too.
Much respect to Jay, Roc Nation, and all involved.

That Grape Juice is honoring #BlackoutTuesday by using the day to cover stories that encourage social reflection and the eradication of racial injustice. Black Lives Matter.
Stop posting this! No one wants to read politics on a music blog!!! It’s ridiculous I’m about to stop visiting this site!
oh you mad!! there’s the door–>
But music….contains……political…..messages ???!!
Are u dumb
He was a pòrn star.
And im sure you watched it
Doesn’t detract from the fact that he was murdered, asshole.
The KKK is accepting members. Maybe you should check out their site instead of this one.
Damage control after he had no response to questions about his partnership with the NFL. The league put out a statement about how they recognize there is “an urgent need for action” and now Jay-Z has all this extra stuff he’s doing. Where was their support when Kaepernick tried to create change to prevent the type of thing that happened to Floyd? If they had helped when it counted, maybe George would be alive. I’ll believe their words when they encourage anybody and everybody to sit and kneel on the field without consequence.
Ermm you do know he got nfl to part with 100 million to help with prison reform earlier this year…. 🥴🤦🏽♀️ Jay z ain’t squeaking on social media like most of yall he actually puts in the work. Kap took his settlement and bounced in fact jay got kap an opportunity for try outs with teams and kap f***** it up stfu.
Malcolm Jenkins and Anquan Boldin did the ground work to get that 100 million, not Jay-Z!! Still, 100 million is nothing to a league that earns 8 billion a year. They will gladly pay 100 as long as it keeps any visible protest off their fields and out of the face of their viewers and sponsors. And Kaepernick didn’t mess that up. The NFL messed it up by offering the tryout in exchange for Kaeperinick giving up all rights to ever take them to court. He chose not to sell out!
Hhhhmmm I’m sorry but these celebrities should of started along time ago to make a change. Why all of a sudden now. Why don’t they donate all the riches they have and why aren’t they out their protesting with everyone else walking side by side with these people. Oh wait they are chilling in their mansions.
If you think Jay trying to make a change is “all of a sudden”, you simply haven’t been paying attention. And there is no one correct way to approach this issue. Some people organize, some people march, some people donate, some people write letters to their politicians, some people educate and inspire, and some people do none of the above and complain about things they haven’t bothered to inform themselves on.
I agree I feel nothing will change after this I want to have hope but nothing will change until black people change within stop killing each other black lives should matter to black people not only when whites kill us period
This is a “WE FIGHT”! THANK YOU ALL!👏🏿👏👏🏿👏👏🏿👏🤝🏽🤝🤝🏽🤝🌏🙏🏾💆🏽♀️😷🇺🇸💆♀️

Thanks but No thanks. Sorry not sorry. I thought we was past kneeling. Jay Z just don’t want to look like the sell-out that he is and always will be. Like Cornel West says, “the chickens come home to roost.”
