SZA’s ‘Hit Different’ Delivers Her Highest Hot 100 Debut Yet

Published: Tuesday 15th Sep 2020 by Rashad

September 4 saw SZA spring a surprise on fans in the form of ‘Hit Different’ – the answer to years of calls for new music from the songstress after her 2017 critically acclaimed, double Platinum debut album, ‘CTRL.’

Tapping Ty Dolla $ign to assist, the single saw its unveiling accompanied by a choreography-laden music video directed by the Missouri-reared maestra herself.

Now, as its inaugural sales tracking week has completed, The Neptunes-produced bop has made an impressive premiere on the Hot 100.

The fourth top 40 hit of her career as a leader, ‘Hit Different’ also boasts being the highest chart debut of SZA’s career to date.

Premiering at #29, the song’s arrival is her personal best first-week showing to date.

Its top 40 entry makes it the first song of her career to debut in the chart region, narrowly beating her previous best first-week placement of #43 delivered by the Kendrick Lamar duet, ‘All the Stars’ (from the 2018 ‘Black Panther’ soundtrack).

What’s more, the #29 opening of ‘Hit Different’ ties her second place career peak (as a leader) on the Hot 100 as her 3x Platinum signature tune, ‘The Weekend,’ climaxed at the same position in 2017. Her highest rung reached on the Hot 100 is the #7 peak of ‘Stars’ (on which she shares top billing with Lamar).

[Note:  Overall, SZA has 7 top 40 hits when her features are included.]

Sza is starting to look over rated in my eyes.

Another Natural Star who has outpeaked the majority of Camicky Cabelly flop singles in the last year.

Camicky is all smoke mirrors . We don’t care if Normani hasn’t seen Billboard since November because she hasn’t released anything solo 🤣🤣

Camicky on the other hand has been throwing singles out and nothing is sticking. NAWT a Star. Embarrassing

Let that sink in like Camickys Sunk Flopped and Canceled Tour

Yes! Time to knock the bubble gum bull s.h.i.t. Out the top of the charts and replace it with real music!

It’s crazy how R&B artists singles struggle to chart. CTRL is an R&B classic. As much as Love Galore, The Weekend and Broken Clocks played on radio you would think they were top 10 or even #1 hits. What’s the disconnect?

Good song but I hope the mumble singing is not something present in her whole album. It’s annoying trying to figure what she is saying apart from that it’s a bop.

She was mumbling to you ???
