Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ Passes Adele To Become Second Longest-Running Female-Led Hot 100 Hit Ever

Published: Saturday 19th Feb 2022 by Rashad

Over a year-and-a-half after the masses first became acquainted with Dua Lipa‘s ‘Levitating,’ the song has levitated to Billboard history books in ways many couldn’t have imagined.

Found at #17 on the refreshed Hot 100 in its 66th week (as we reported here), the ‘Future Nostalgia’ hit continues to be a chart force thanks to domination at radio.

Here are the numbers that powered its top 20 tenancy this week.

  • Streaming   8.4 million U.S.-based streams
  • Digital Downloads 1,800 sold
  • Radio Airplay  37.9 million audience impressions

Already penciled in record books as the longest-running top 10 female-led hit (40 weeks), ‘Levitating’ is set to extend its historic reign by becoming the longest-running female-led song to ever impact any region of the Hot 100.

With its 66th print on the hit list, Lipa has broken a three-way tie with Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ and Jewel‘s ‘Foolish Games/You Were Meant for Me’ – the latter two boast 65 weeks on the chart respectively.

Now solidly in second place among longest-running female-led hits, the only song that separates Dua from the all-time title is Leann Rimes‘ gargantuan 1997 hit, ‘How Do I Live,’ which spent a whopping 69 weeks on the tally.

It’s a shame the song didn’t hit the top spot. 💅🏾 It totally deserved #1, so does Don’t start now.

She really should have submitted the song to the Grammys. I know she’ll bring with her next album. She has the potential to dominate.

I still don’t understand why this song did not hit the #1 Spot. The song got blocked for weeks. This song deserved the number 1 position due to its longevity. After all the song hit the number 1 spot on the year end charts.

Never knew that Leann Rimes‘ hit, ‘How Do I Live,’ spent a whopping 69 weeks on the tally. What’s interesting is even with that record, Trisha Yearwood and not Rimes won the Grammy for that song. Very interesting how the recording industry works.
