Christina Aguilera Gets Emotional Discussing New EP ‘La Luz,’ Latin GRAMMY Nods, & More with Billboard [Video]

Ahead of being honored and taking the stage to perform at the Billboard Latin Music Awards Thursday (September 29), Pop veteran Christina Aguilera took part in the platform’s Latin Week celebrations, including the ‘Premiere Party’ hosted by Lyndsey Havens.

When not answering fan questions and being presented with new plaques from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Xtina dished on new music – namely her forthcoming EP ‘La Luz.’  The follow-up to ‘La Tormenta’ and the Latin GRAMMY-nominated ‘La Fuerza,’ ‘Luz’ – alongside its predecessors – makes up the diva’s new all-Spanish album, ‘Aguilera.’

Calling some of its content her ‘most personal yet,’ look inside to see the ‘Fighter’ singer fight back tears as she dished on the highly anticipated project.

Gearing up for the release of ‘La Luz,’ Aguilera told the ‘Premiere Party’ audience about an unreleased single off the EP titled ‘No Es Que Te Extrañe.’

Saying the song “deals with an estranged or difficult relationship you may have had with someone you were close with, a loved one,” Christina was careful not to reveal who inspired it but did divulge more information about why it was so personal.

“For me, it does touch on some experiences I had growing up, the environment around me. Inside the home and outside the home, I witnessed various forms of abuse,” she shared while getting emotional.

Suggesting the song is meant to encourage a “feeling closure in a peaceful way” and not “blaming” or “villifying” the people who inspired it, the Pop diva hopes her fans can find strength in the new tune’s touching lyrics.

“My purpose is to tell a story that hopefully others can relate to and feel empowered by and find forgiveness for themselves and those who have hurt us,” she said before later relaying, “…it’s important to let go of things that hurt us so badly that we end up being held prisoner ourselves by them.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Christina discussed the pressures to change her ethnic last name and so much more.  Click “PLAY” on the video above to watch the full interview.

She will always be my idol because she is talented, outspoken and proud. Witnessing abuse is something that always sticks with you and I’m glad she’s able to use music as therapy.
