Just two months after Kelly Rowland stunned her beloved fans (affectionately called #RowlandStones) with news her next album would be dropped without warning, the R&B diva has taken to press to double down on the notion about the long-awaited follow-up to 2013’s ‘Talk a Good Game.’
Chatting it up with ET Canada recently in promotion of her forthcoming film, Tyler Perry‘s ‘Mea Culpa,’ as well as her brand partnership with SC Johnson’s FamilyGuard to bring awareness to “National Yes, Play!” Day, the 42-year-old discussed those ventures while also fielding questions about Beyonce‘s ‘Renaissance Tour,’ Destiny’s Child, and more.
When quizzed about her solo musical ventures, Rowland quickly shut down the idea anything is coming soon but went on to clarify new tunes are still on her radar.
Hop inside to see what she said.
Rowland beamed when dishing about her forthcoming film and TV endeavors, but was honest that music is still “inspiring her” at this stage of her career.
When the interviewer pressed Kelly to elaborate on new solo music details, however, the songstress played coy.
“I just won’t say anything in the first place,” Rowland said in relation to previous false promises of new music (at the video’s 9:05 mark). “Let me just be spontaneous and just go in the studio, nobody knows, and just randomly release music. That’s the way it should be; it should be a surprise.”
Later, the interviewer asked if there were any genres or collaborations Kelly would like to explore with her new project.
“From Victoria Monet to Lucky Daye to H.E.R., Summer Walker…there are so many artists doing such wonderful things,” the Destiny’s Child alum said at the interview’s 9:47 mark while listing off some of her favorite artists of the day.
Shrouded in mystery, the new effort will come as the first body of work Rowland’s dropped since the ‘K‘ EP in 2021.
HER MUSIC IS SO CLASSIC! *Plays RED WINE*
Kelly needs to work with people who make it to the billboard charts not mess the charts every week!
WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO SAY IS SHE NEEDS TO SELL HER ASS TO BE ON THE BILLBIARD CHARTS WHY NIGAS THINK BEING ON THE BILLBOARD CHARTS MEANS SUCCESS YOU CAN DO MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WITH YOUR MUSIC WITHOUT BEING ON THE CHARTS THAT S*** IS A SYSTEM TILL THIS DAYS PEOPLE ARE TO DUMB TO UNDERSTAND IT LOOK AT INDEPENDET RAPPERS LIKE RUSS HE MAKES MORE MONEY THEN MOST OF THE RAPPER WHO ARE ON THE TOP 10 OF THE BILLBOARD CHARTS. SHE COULD DO EASLY A WORLWIDE ARENA TOUR SHE HAS THE SONGS EUROPE AND AUSTRALIA LOVES HER EVEN US BUT HER TEAM IS HORRIBLE!
I totally agree with you on everything you said. It’s not important to be on the Billboard Charts To have music to be released. She’s got the chops to show it. And she is popular overseas, but I would like if she really push her music over here first before going to Europe. She does need a team to push her ideas and get those tunes out there to the streets.
Umm Summer Walker says hello. Her and SZA are the contemporary R&B queens right now. HER has the accolades but she’s a flop musically.
B**** please, you are not Beyoncé nor Rihanna… surprise drop doesn’t work for you.
This Saturday both Kelly and Beyonce are performing in the UK. Beyonce will give her 3 hour set in the renaissance world tour, with not 1 Destiny’s Child song.
Kelly’s set on Mighty Hoopla will probably be filled with Destiny’s Child songs and some of her own hits.
