Megan Thee Stallion is officially a free artist
For, the femcee has settled her long-running legal tussle with her former label, 1501 Entertainment.
Full story below…
Moments ago, a statement from 1501’s reps read:
“Both Megan and 1501 are pleased to put this matter behind them and move forward with the next chapter of their respective businesses.”
The label’s president Carl Crawford, who has gone back and forth with the rapper on public platforms, went on to add that he and the imprint “wish Megan the very best in her life and career.”
Terms of the settlement have not been revealed nor is there public-facing intel about whether a financial sum was involved.
Megan and 1501 have been at loggerheads for over three years after the GRAMMY-winning chart-topper mounted a legal charge to be freed from an “unfair” contract she asserts fell well below industry standards.
Upon moving to Roc Nation for management in 2019, the juggernaut’s legal team (whom Meg deems “real lawyers”) combed over her agreement with 1501 – an indie/production label – and, per Meg, realized that the terms were ‘crazy.”
In the time since, the core issue has expanded to include how many remaining projects the performer owes the label, with the nuanced spar diving into the specificities of what constitutes a full “album.”
Suits and countersuits flew over everything from misappropriated funds to allegedly owed millions to missing royalties.
A judge ruled in December that the case would be heading to a jury trial, although a definitive date has been delayed many times over.
Now, with the settlement in place, all parties are free of each other.
And while the news may come as a welcome surprise to many, it appears Megan has been hinting at a resolution recently. For, just last week she took to Instagram to declare: “I have no label” and revealed that her incoming album will be an indie release. Which, in the context of her legal battle with 1501, is oh-so understandable.
Good luck! Hopefully she ain’t another jOJO or Rita Ora.
Why she keep telling everybody her business just drop the album
Weight loss looks good on her, but the music has always been repetitive. She’d be the most snatched medical admin. 😉
