Mo’Nique is speaking up and out in the wake of Taraji P. Henson‘s viral interview about unequal pay as a Black actress.
As reported, ‘The Color Purple’ star broke down in tears when relaying the struggles she’s encountered receiving equal parity.
Many made an alignment between Henson’s sentiments and those Mo’Nique articulated during her public beef with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Lee Daniels, and Tyler Perry relating to ‘Precious’ and the fallout that followed.
Sitting down for an interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay today (February 7), addressed the comparisons folk have been making.
Full story below…
Sharing that watching Henson’s emotion was “painful,” Mo’Nique suggested her complaints were dismissed by many because of her appearance.
She said:
“It was the messenger. I should just be grateful I got invited to the party. You’re a big, fat Black woman. How dare you?”

Welp.
Look at the sympathy Rihanna got with Chris Brown, and look at Megan.
There were a few scattered “Free Chris Brown” but not the way it’s 50/50 split in the Black community.
Colorism 100% exists and the more people deny and gaslight it, the more they prove it does indeed.
Meg is not the same as Rihana. It’s not color. Meg is a lowdown, social climbing, backstabbing h00ker. And the story doesn’t add up.
Monique is right, was definitely the messenger. But the difference also is that she was framing it more like Hollywood owed her because she won an Oscar, Taraji included other actresses as well in her conversation.
Mo’Nique was very self serving first of all. On top of that, it was her delivery. Telling Tyler and Oprah to suck her d*** wasn’t the classiest response. Lastly she wanted us to boycott Netflix because SHE was being lowballed which was followed by a nice nasty media tour about her woes of being blackballed.
Get a life…boringggg!!
This flop propject shouldn’t be a news at all…Chilee.
I think thosevof us who fully listened to everything Monique had to say felt similar about her statements as we later felt about Taraji’s statements. Their situations are different yet both of them had/have a valid point in my opinion. I think the difference is Monique didn’t get any back up from other actresses in the industry because no one else wanted to take on the figures that she was going up against (Oprah, Tyler, Daniels, Netflix). No one wanted to speak out alongside her so she stood alone in her grievance. Taraji’s claims were more general so others were willing to chime in to support her.
I agree with you. But I think if Mo had taken a different approach addressing the matter she probably would’ve gotten more support. Not many professionals in any industry would risk damaging their careers by aligning themselves with someone who communicates in the manor that Mo does.
Black Americans..what do u expect? The entitlement is beyond comprehension!
