Billboard 200: DaBaby’s ‘How TF Is This A Mixtape?’ Debuts at #154

Published: Monday 7th Oct 2024 by Sam

DaBaby‘s comeback project hasn’t quite set the charts ablaze. Quite the contrary. Because the rapper’s ‘How TF Is This A Mixtape?’ has limped in with worryingly low sales on the US charts.

Full story below…

Arriving as the MC’s second project since the 2021 homophobia scandal that clipped the wings of his commercial ascend, the mixtape was touted as a reintroduction of sorts. Especially after 2022 album ‘Blame On Baby 2’ only managed a #34 peak.

However, there’s more work to do. Because, on this week’s iteration of the Billboard 200, ‘How TF Is This A Mixtape’ limps in at #154 with just 9000 units sold.

During a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, the rapper intimated that he would be working the project in a more grassroots, brick-by-brick capacity. As such, time will tell if that has any positive impact on the numbers longterm.

Tbh I can’t believe those comments literally destroyed his career. It’s way more str8 ppl in this world and the average listener of hip hop was straight young men. This speaks to the power the gaye community has gained over the last 15 or so years.

Or maybe it’s just an acceptance that hate and bigotry don’t have any place in modern society. Da baby played with fire by collaborating with Dua Lips – basically a gay icon. If you don’t wanna be associated with them, don’t collaborate with a singer who is an ardent ally. Let’s be honest, da baby was never good anyway. His continued onslaught and lack of awareness about lgbt issues or the lack of safety black men experience coming out or being open, expressing emotions etc. Demonstrate why he got what he deserved. He reeped what he sewed.

So basically you are agreeing with me with that response. There’s been plenty of ppl that said things about the Gay community in their music or otherwise remember migos said I do not vibe with q***** and many have said f@gg0t this n that ect so again the fact that he was canceled shows the power the gay community has gained over the last 15 years or so. You’re just saying what I said but in different words.

A couple things here. It’s not just his comments for gay people. The treatment of his baby mommas and his behavior and comments on women killed him. He has no fans left cause straight men and really buying music.

He definitely was an A hole but that never stopped anyone from having a rap career let’s be honest. No 1 buys music anymore we all stream no matter the orientation. A lot of rappers that don’t cater to the gay community would not have a career if straight ppl did not also stream music.
