Chart Check: Katy Perry’s ‘143’ Slips Off the Billboard 200 Just Two Weeks After Its Top 10 Debut

Published: Saturday 19th Oct 2024 by Rashad

Despite being her first album to lack a Hot 100 top 40 single ahead of its delivery to shelves, the commercial nonperformance of housed cuts ‘Woman’s World,’ ‘Lifetimes,’ and ‘I’m His, He’s Mine,’ Pop megastar Katy Perry‘s seventh studio effort ‘143‘ seemed unfazed as it roared to a top 10 opening on the Billboard 200 with some of that week’s top pure sales.

Initially seeming to defy the odds, peruse of the latest edition of the all-genre chart, however, appears to affirm the sentiment of naysayers who branded the body of work a “bomb” before it even debuted.

Beleaguered by criticism for its heavy inclusion of Dr. Luke production, ‘143’ still managed to clock in to the #6 position on the Billboard 200 in its inaugural week of charting before freefalling 70 spots in its second.

By this week (which would have been its third print), ‘143’ has slipped off the all-genre chart completely.

In doing so the short stay marks a personal milestone for Perry as it’s her now her album with the quickest exit from the Billboard 200 – besting the 4-week stay of its predecessor ‘Smile‘ (2020).

All isn’t lost for the ‘143’ era, however.

The Pop diva is mounting a “massive” global jaunt in support of the ill-fated project titled ‘The Lifetimes Tour.’ Named after the album’s second single, click here to see the initial set of international dates attached to the outing.

At least she’ll always have Teenage Dream and she looks incredible. What she achieved with TD was impressive.’ She should learn from all the mistakes….and not leave it so long this time.
