After a full-on media campaign, NBC and the cast of The Voice can breathe easy and breath happy. For season two of the hit talent-search drew a huge audience following its premiere last night.
Full story after the jump…
According to USA Today, the show averaged a mammoth a 34 million audience following its debut after last night’s Super Bowl XLI.
And while the figure is lower than the number achieved by the last reality show to debut after the ‘Bowl (Undercover Boss / 38.7 million), it’s still a massive coup for the network.
Already hailed as a “conceptual” threat to American Idol‘s monopoly, with these numbers ‘Voice’ now posits a legitimate ratings headache for its Jennifer Lopez fronted rival. For, the Fox show -now in its 12th season- averages a 20 million audience; a number dropping year on year. A fact, what’s more, which makes the rising popularity of The Voice all the more worrying for Idol.
Still, it’s be ridiculous to play down the role of the Super Bowl in beefing up the show’s first season 12 million ratings average. Indeed, the true test will come with there isn’t the most watched extravaganza in history acting as a lead-in .
Pending then, I hope team Christina Aguilera are readying new music and a PR onslaught to accompany. For, the star has hit a home-run with The Voice and has in it the exact platform needed to guarantee a sure-fire comeback.
SLAYAGE! Well deserved RATINGS SLAYAGE!! It’s a show that actually focuses on talent, no sob stories, no antics, so I’m glad that it appeals to many viewers.
And what’s up with the shade? ‘The Voice’ didn’t get “a full-on media campaign”. There were a bunch of trailers online and a couple of them were broadcasted on TV and 3 of the coaches were invited to Ellen. Is that a major promotional push? And also, don’t judge the show’s impact by the first season. People weren’t familiar with the show until 2 months after its premiere during season one and the viewers increased weekly.
Anyway, they slayed and I hope the next episodes will be just as successful 😀
the true success of the show will come when the show is like you stated on following a major event… & also when they actually find a talented person that can have success translate on the chart…. because last years winner (where is he?) I can wait for an answer…
& this show seems to be more about the “coaches” then actually helping find SUCCESSFUL talent.
So happy Christina and Adam are doing so well on this show. I love the format of this show I can’t wait until it comes to the UK.
Oh lord, I feel it for Simon Cowell. Uh and he want the queens mariah and Beyonslay to pull his ratings up? HELL TO THE NO!!!
He know this two women will slay his show and he will pocket all the money.
I am happy the voice take over simona’s show cause karma is a b**** with a broken leg on crotches.
go xtina !!!
O,O wow shocked!!!! TBH I didn’t expect The Voice to had this huge rating after Superbowl… but YAYYYY!!!!
& oh… according to this source: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2012/02/06/the-voices-37-6-million-viewers-are-best-post-super-bowl-numbers-since-2006/118818/ the rating is higher than 34 million. *shrug*
Wow that is huge. It is really a great show. But the winner didn’t get his album promoted properly.
Christina Aguilera is the f*cking best.
I loved the “Vocal Combat” commercial for THE VOICE.
I cannot wait for the new album in 2012.
Xtina Voicelera, a legend since 1993 Mickey Mouse club. Here to stay.
Next week, it won’t be nearly as big. I can’t get into this show for some reason. Some of the people are too old. They’re aren’t enough young people. The X Factor and American Idol are SO much better than this show. I’ll watch next week’s episode, but if I can’t get into it, I’ll be done with it just like last season.
I don’t know why they didn’t show the other version of that vocal combat commercial where xtina punches the s*** out of Blake and has the last laugh.
Anyway, Christinas on her way to one of the greatest comebacks of our generation.
I only discovered that this Javier Colon character has already released his album way back in November and it debuted @ #120 on the US charts. So much for winning. 🙁
