In a recent interview with iTunes, Rihanna recounted her first concert experience, which interestingly happened to be a Beyonce show. Peep what the Covergirl model had to say:
“My very first arena concert was Beyoncé/Alicia Keys/Missy Elliott [in 2004]. I think it was the ‘Ladies First’ tour,” she said.
Despite her bad seats, she will always remember that special night. “I was in like a nosebleed seat, but I was in tears. I could not believe that Beyoncé was right there, and Alicia Keys and Missy Elliott.”

Randomness: I hear a lot of ‘blah blah’ about going in on ol’ RiRi, but it’s only ’cause we care :-). For all Ms. Fenty’s fierceness looks-wise, it’s such a shame that her talent can’t match up. A damn shame. There’s no doubt in my mind that if it did, she’d be a the total package. Instead we have this absolute stunner with zero stage presence, sheep-bleating over hot beats, and kinda making a mockery of the industry in the process. I never really liked Rihanna. But I have SO much respect for her. People who can ‘semi-sing’ like Britney Spears, lip-syncs, and Rihanna despite her “bad singing” she doesn’t lip-sync, she is such a beautiful woman, and has a great attitude, that Rihanna. At the end of the day you just can’t help but love her!
The thing is, people like models and even buy products that models advertise because of the way they look. That’s a given.
Rihanna is a model, and her product is music. In this day and age it is simply more about a package than anything else, and Rihanna has that package. ‘Singing’, which includes: a large range, ability to stay on key and not have your voice crack will come back around, it’s just not popular right now. When it does become popular, people will no longer be as interested in Rihanna.
But right now, this is the trend. It is what it is. Her type of ‘voice’ is recognizable on the radio and this is the only thing needed to distinguish her from some of her peers that may indeed be able to ‘sing’.It’s about a distinctive voice, which she has. Even though it’s not traditional singing. It’s not my taste, but I see the reasons that she’s successful and it’s a trend. Eventually it will go away.
P.S. Sade and Toni Braxton are great singers with limited range.

The buzz around her was crazy, so when she finally dropped her album, people swarmed to get it. Mary on the other hand had the backing of Sean Combs who was hot at the time, and she had major buzz in the hood I remember hearing about Mary back then, she was all the rage. When rihanna came out, no one knew who she was, she just appeared with the pon de replay song and people had never heard of her before her album dropped. But people had already been hearing about Alicia and Mary. Anyway with all that being said, Rihanna is still the most popular and bigger star of the three. As of now, she is outselling GGGb, doing better than it did around the same time, so that spells success for rihanna. She may not have any number 1’s as yet, but she sure got her self two top tens in the process. Don’t worry, when its all said and done, watch how many number 1’s come off of Rated R. I know what Def Jam is doing , they ain’t stupid. Artist need to gain sales and do better each time they come out, and rihanna is doing just that. In Alicia’s case, she is actually doing worst than her last time out, so who then is performing up to their standard? Stop worrying about where rihanna’s 27 million fans are, because they don’t include you. You all always asking that crap as if that’s supposed to prove something. If you had any common sense, you would know that not all fans can afford to buy albums. Some people can be a fan of an artist, but live in countries where record stores are not readily available, or they just don’t have funds to buy the record, or they can only hear her songs over the radio, but have no where to purchase etc. So that question is irrelevant. One thing is for sure though she still have fans buying her records to this day, and have been supporting her from 2005 when she entered the game. If it weren’t for those fans, she wouldn’t still be here, so you better believe her fans are backing and supporting her. Ask those other failing artists where there fans are, cause you sure as hell know that rihanna got fans repping for her all day every day.
