High School Graduate Silenced After Mentioning Trayvon Martin Completes Speech Online

Published: Saturday 8th Jun 2019 by David

A high school valedictorian has claimed that her school made a cowardly attempt to silence her tribute to the slain African-American teenager Trayvon Martin.

Watch the upsetting moment below…

My valedictorian speech was cut short because I said the names of black children who had become victims of police brutality. Our principal signaled for my mic to be turned off as soon as I said ‘Trayvon Martin and Tamir Rice’ and played it off as a technical difficulty. Pathetic.

I want you to watch Rooha Haghar, the brilliant and brave valedictorian of Emmett J. Conrad High School simply say the names of Trayvon Martin and Tamir Rice, two young students that have been unjustly killed as she has grown up, and then have her microphone cut off. The principal later blamed it on technical difficulties, but here he is, clearly giving a signal to the sound man to cut her off. In doing so, he made Rooha into a hero, he made Trayvon and Tamir’s names be said everywhere, and made himself look like a short-sighted coward. We will say these names. Our young leaders will say these names. And we won’t be stopped. Proud of you Rooha!

Rooha Haghar sought to honour the slain victims of racism but was silenced by Principal Asmeron.

I never expected them to not allow me to finish, because at the end of the day, schools want to raise socially conscious students, students who are able to think for themselves. That’s what I was doing.

Asmeron is yet to respond to the criticism they have received.

  1. It’s a shame June 8, 2019

His disruption caused her message to go viral. Bravos to her for using her speech to raise awareness. Principal Asmeron should explain his principles to the parents of the students he is entrusted to educate.

So disgusting of him to do that to her, but him trying to silence her just made it even worse.

  3. Oh Well June 9, 2019

It took a white girl to get Trayvon Martin and Tamir Rice names known worldwide… Come on black America wake up and stop being so lazy show more interest.

People knew their names way before this girl mentioned them in a speech.

Sadly it typically does take a white person naming Injustice for the main stream to pay attention however you’re missing 2 things:

      1) If you think Black America has been “Lazy” about these injustices you’re ridiculous

      2) Give this girl some credit, she may be light but I highly doubt she’s white. LoL
