The Democrat’s team made the announcement moments ago.
Despite strong support initially, preliminary voting has seen rival Joe Biden sail ahead as favorite for the Democratic nomination to take on Donald Trump in the Fall.
The candidate also made a bid for the White House in 2016 and was bested by Hillary Clinton, who went on to controversially lose against Trump.
Sanders’ exit comes after Michael Bloomberg also also bowed out.

Biden may not get strong support from ALL of these groups, but he’s built enough of a coalition. Bernie didn’t. His support comes mainly from his base and the primary results reflect that.
