Jesse Jackson, one of the most prominent voices in the civil rights movement, has died at age 84.

Full story below…

Jackson’s family confirmed that the longtime activist passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning with loved ones by his side.

A cause of death has not been disclosed, though he had previously revealed a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

Born in 1941, Jackson rose to national prominence as a close associate of Martin Luther King Jr., eventually carving out his own path as a political force and faith leader.

Across decades, he became a firm fixture in the fight for racial equality, voter registration, and economic justice.

He twice pursued the Democratic nomination for president in the 1980s, breaking barriers and expanding political participation in the process. His Rainbow PUSH Coalition further affirmed his legacy as an organizer committed to uplifting marginalized communities.

In a statement, his family hailed his lifelong dedication to justice and human rights, calling him a relentless advocate who helped shape a global movement for dignity and freedom.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, their children, and grandchildren.

A pioneer, a force, and a leader, he will be remembered and revered for generations to come.

May he rest in peace.
