Barack Obama has weighed in after a racist video circulated from President Donald Trump’s social media account sparked outrage across the political sphere.
The clip, which featured the former President and former First Lady Michelle Obama depicted as apes, drew mass condemnation from Democrats and Republicans alike.
While Obama did not reference Trump by name, he addressed the controversy during a new podcast appearance, reflecting on what he sees as a troubling shift in public discourse.

The video, shared on Trump’s Truth Social account, featured the shock depiction and repeated unfounded claims about voter fraud in the 2020 election.
After the backlash boiled to a fever pitch, the White House initially dismissed criticism as “fake outrage” before later attributing the upload to a staff member. The post was ultimately deleted.
Appearing on Brian Tyler Cohen’s podcast, the 44th President was asked about the current tone of political conversation. He responded:
“It’s important to recognise that the majority of the American people find this behaviour deeply troubling.
It is true that it gets attention. It’s true that it’s a distraction.”
He continued:
“There’s this sort of clown show that’s happening in social media and on television.
And what is true is that there doesn’t seem to be any shame about this among people who used to feel like you had to have some sort of decorum and a sense of propriety and respect for the office, right?
That’s been lost.”
