First Look: Whitney Houston & Bobby Brown In Lifetime Biopic

Last week saw the masses given the first look at actress Yaya DaCosta in her role as Whitney Houston in Lifetime‘s hotly anticipated biopic on the late diva.

Today, though, brings with it a sneak peek at DaCosta and co-star Arlen Escarpeta – who plays Houston’s controversial ex-husband Bobby Brown

Interestingly, the movie – which is being directed by Whitney’s Waiting To Exhale co-star Angela Bassett  won’t chronicle the entirety of the singer’s life or death. Instead, the telepic will play out the headline-grabbing relationship between Houston and Brown – from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity, to their courtship and roller-coaster marriage.

Tentatively titled ‘Whitney’, the film is currently shooting and is slated for a 2015 debut.

If the movie is going to be only about Whitney & Bobby, then don’t call it “Whitney”. Call it “Whitney & Bobby”. Simple
    as that.

So basically they are just going to rehash all the stuff that we already know????…. just lost interest.

      • Danny b July 14, 2014

Exactly. This is the first opportunity to tell the story of this legend thru film, so why waste it on focussing on the negative aspect of life? I’m kind of side eying Angela big time for this.

  6. Jamie July 14, 2014

This is looking like it should’ve been a broadway musical.

  7. whut July 14, 2014

Sorry, don’t see it in either of them.

  8. Mark111 July 14, 2014

It’s gonna be good. Great casting. A Britney bio would be awesome as well.

  9. Anne July 14, 2014

Whitney deserves a Whitney movie instead of Whitney &Bobby movie. Bobby did not start Whitney ‘s career like Ike did for Tina. He was not a part of her life as she rose to fame. She was already a huge star when she met him. If they don’t do the pre Bobby years justice I will be disappointed.

  10. Aaron July 14, 2014

Yea I think kelly Rowland should have played Whitney also..

  11. Faith July 14, 2014

I thought for sure she would do Whitney or Donna Summers..

  12. cdman July 14, 2014

angela basset did a horrible job with betty and corretta. I think she get away with doing a horrible job because she is accomplished. Not only is she disrespecting the family by doing this film but some of the fans as well.

for once listen and stop production of this angela basset horror

    • Gregg July 14, 2014

She is no disrespecting anyone, stop it…..at least with her directing it we know the story will be respectful to Whitney because she had somewhat of a relationship/friendship

  13. Nicki nicki July 14, 2014

Yes I do think Kelly Rowland would be a better pick for this movie , Kelly can act she’s a great and if Kelly does it , she would make sure it’s in movies #Hello , team Kelly for this

  14. Marcus July 14, 2014

    Michelle Williams should play Whitney

  15. theone July 14, 2014

Michelle Williams hands down should have gotten the role

There must be children on this site who clearly have no knowledge of the history of musical genius that is Whitney Houston. While Kelly Rowland is a good artist, playing Whitney Houston, NEVER! She doesn’t have the chops for that, acting, vocally, or even the image (No Shade). YaYa is accomplished, she is musically trained, she is a notable actress, wouldn’t be my first pick at a role of this caliber, but we all know that they are trying to sell the movie with stars/upcoming stars. Not sure who would really make a good Whitney, but they should shuffle through the past American Idol runner ups for a starting place. After all, Jennifer Hudson did an amazing job in Dreamgirls. Anyway, this is all wishful thinking anyhow because this biopic is already cast and in production. I guess we have to hope for the best.

    • Anne July 14, 2014

Dreamgirls was a musical and Jennifer was portraying a character that we were not familiar with as a person. We all know Whitney’s personality and demeanor. It will take a very strong actress to pull this off and singing is a non-factor because no one can sing Whitney’s songs like Whitney. If they had Jennifer singing Whitney’s songs it would be the Jennifer Hudson movie. This is Whitney’s movie, obviously Angela feels Yaya has the acting chops. I hope she is right! If that’s the case then she is perfect because she definitely has the right look. More so than Kelly or Jennifer, that’s for sure.

  17. eric July 14, 2014

Arlen is good people, but this looks like a joke the way they glued hair to this young man’s head. I’m not so confident in this movie anymore, as much as I like Arlen and Yaya.

  18. IStanForYourFav July 14, 2014

O.K. Now this is so disrespectful. I know acting is supposed to be how the person captured the character’s spirit and etc., but they could have done a lot more to that guy’s image. Where’s Bobby notorious gap? Why does he look like more her good Judy on set than her husband? Bobby is street and etc., while this nerd… I just can’t. There are no words.

  19. Anne July 14, 2014

People this is WHITNEY’s movie. It’s not about the next opportunity for Kelly Rowland or Jennifer Hudson it’s about the portrayal of Whitney. I barely knew who Yaya was when she got the part and that is perfect. I don’t want the focus to be on the person playing the part. We should be able to forget who she really is and think of her as Whitney when the movie starts and the less well known she is the easier it will be to do so. Besides acting ability (being able to capture Whitney’s essence), lip syncing ability, and the right look should be the only three concerns. This girl definitely has the right look, I hope she is good enough for the other two. Kelly cannot act and Jennifer is an okay actress but I can’t see her having the ability to portray Whitney. Hopefully this young lady has some real acting chops and can lip sync her b*** off!

    1. As much as we all love Whitney, it’s inevitable that several films/T.V movies will be made about her life, which also means that not all of them are going to appeal to us. In other words, some will be great…and some will be sh*t. Just don’t expect a dream girls-esque budget being spent on a Whitney biopic anytime soon, even if we all knows she deserves it.

    2. No Kelly Roland or Michelle Williams…Get a relatively unknown to play whitney. An actress who has spent time honing her craft. Not another singer, or singer/actress/model. Then, use well know established artists to play supporting roles. eg. Clive Davis, Bobby Brown, etc.

  21. Valerie July 15, 2014

I can see it for her but not him. And Kelly? Lmfao. No. Just no.
