FOX hit ‘Empire’ is heading to the 2015 Billboard Music Awards.
Details below…
Two of the show’s breakout stars, Jussie Smollett and Bryshere Gray (who play Lyon brothers Jamal and Hakeem) will be taking to the stage at May 17th event to perform a medley of songs from the series (including fan favorite ‘You’re So Beautiful)’.
The pair will be joined by singer Estelle, whose song ‘Conquerer’ was remixed as a duet with Smollett on the show.
Speaking on booking the big stage, the trio said:
Jussie Smollett
“There’s no way I could possibly love music more than I already do. The Billboard Music Awards has been the epitome of celebrating some of the best of the best in music. To be included as a performer on this year’s celebration is a huge honor.”
Bryshere Gray
“I’m still living in a dream — the success of Empire and now getting the honor to perform at the Billboard Music Awards. It’s truly a blessing”.
Estelle
“My hope is that ‘Conqueror’ will continue to inspire people as much as possible. It’s such a powerful message! I cannot wait to perform it at the Billboard Music Awards with Jussie!”
The 2015 Billboard Music Awards airs live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 17th on ABC at 8 pm ET.
*********
We’ve made no secret of our love for ‘Empire’ and the semantics of its success. However, we’re just hopeful that all involved are being mindful of the risk of overexposure.
With the show being such a ratings juggernaut (a surprise one at that), it garnered a lot of coverage. Indeed, who could forget the weekly climbs in viewership and the major buzz that in itself caused? Clearly not FOX, who are reportedly gearing up to bring the show back for its second season earlier than planned (see: anytime from September ).
From where we’re standing, it’d be wise to pace out performances such as this to give folk a chance to actually miss the show ahead of its return.
Just our two cents. Anyway…
