Flames to dust, lovers to friends, all good things must come to an end. And for FOX talent search ‘American Idol’ that end has been confirmed.
Details below…
Deadline reports:
It’s an end of an era. One of the most successful reality series ever,American Idol, will end its run after one final season. Fox has renewed the venerable music competition series for a 15th season, which will be its last. Coming back are host Ryan Seacrest, who has been on the show since Day 1, as well as the judges for the past two seasons, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. In addition to the competition, Season 15 also will reflect on the show’s run and some of notable alumni.
Since launching in 2002, Idol has catapulted the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, and Carrie Underwood in superstardom. The show is also credited with introducing the US and wider world to Simon Cowell and revitalising the career of panelist Paula Abdul.
In recent years, ratings have waned despite high profile additions to the judging panel, including the notorious Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey signings in 2012.
Say what folk will about Idol, there’s no denying it’s cultural and commercial impact.
Will its end signal the final fifteen minutes for the talent-search format or will it open the door for an edgier replacement? Time will tell!
