Welcome to Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature carved out to take our readers on a journey back to TV and Film’s glorious past.

Before Disney made stars out of Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, the actress Melissa Joan Hart stood tall as one of television’s most sought after players.

Following her successful run on Nickelodeon’s ‘Clarissa Explains It All‘, the thespian was called on to lead a TV movie named ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch.’

Produced by Viacom, the ‘Bewitched’-inspired series told the tale of a girl named Sabrina who learns that she is a witch on her sixteen birthday and moves in with her aunts and their talking cat Salem who guide her as she juggles school, romance and all the weird and wonderful of magic has to throw at her.

Its run came to an end of April 24th 2003, but not before pulling in ratings that made it one of the highest-rated shows in television (its premiere picked up 17 million viewers) and cement itself in the memories of many a 90s baby.

I heard M+J it got cancelled. It had it’s moments but I find that Melissa and Joey always play the same characters on every show, which why they didn’t even bother to come up with different character names.

I was huge fan of this show. Oh God the memories. I remember running home to school to watch this. Also it’s animated series was awesome too.

This show along side Dawson’s Creek, Beverley Hills 90210(original), That’s So Raven, Charmed, Moesha, Hannah Montana, The OC, Taina, The Cosby Show, My Wife and Kids all the way to Gossip Girl were my favorite TV shows(gosh I was such a couch potato)

The Sweet Valley book series, Goosebumps book series all the way to my fave cartoons Spongebob, Hamtaro, Mona The Vampire, Totally Spies, Winx Club, Kim Possible, The Cramp Twins, Where On Earth Is Carmen Sandiego, Inspector Gadget etc. Arrgg the memories, nostalgia is a bittch.

Also the music scene… Aaliyah, Brandy to Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera to Backstreet Boys, N’Sync to Boys 2 Men, Usher to TLC, Spice Girls etc. From fashion to politics etc. They don’t make them like this anymore.

    for non american
have you ever gone and checked out these old tv shows and movies americans make soo much fuss over and just not get it! This was one of it for me, the show was just weak in all aspects. Love vampire diaries but cant get through an episode of buffy. And i loved angel growing up. Also whats up with star wars? Like what exactly is sooo great about it? And i loved ANDROMEDA!!!!!

As a non-american I was very skeptical about Buffy before I watched it, and now I think its one of the best sci-fi’s ever made. You have to test out an entire season like s2 or s5 to get into it.
