The Marvel movie has enthralled audiences the world over since its arrival last month and its dominance has been unparalleled. Especially in the US, where this week it extends its reign despite stiff competition from Lara Croft.

With another $27 million accrued this week, the Chadwick Boseman led epic retained the #1 spot – besting ‘Tomb Raider’s $23.5 million opening.
In doing so, ‘Panther’ becomes the first film to since ‘Avatar’ in 2009 occupy pole position for five consecutive weeks.
Additionally, having hit the $1 billion mark globally, the movie now stands the seventh to generate over $600 million at the US box office. It’s the second-fastest film to achieve said feat and is only bested by ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’
And it looks like more slayage is around the corner.
For, ‘Panther’s paws are in reaching distance of a major record attached to ‘The Avengers.’ Because, with $623 million earned at the North American box office, that flick serves as the as top-grossing superhero film of all time.
But with ‘Panther’s momentum still at full speed, the passing of the baton looks to be more a case “when” rather than “if.”
