It will be contemporary, building on the mythology of the original. Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today.
The masterminds behind the reboot are searching high and low for a black actress to lead the series as they search for the right network to partner with for its release.
Though we’re elated to learn of Whedon’s plans to make the new Buffy a sister, it is important to remember that diverse casting can sometimes just be glorified tokenism.
Put simply, if this is going with work with a black lead, the reboot’s writing will have to speak directly to the unique experiences a black slayer would face and make an unashamed effort to court black views with ideas, concepts and motifs it can relate to.
