Tinashe is ballroom bound.
For, it’s now been confirmed that the R&B siren has joined season 27 of ‘Dancing With The Stars.’
Details below…
The 25-year-old has been paired with professional dancer Brandon K. Strong.
As is customary, the “official” reveal took place tomorrow on Good Morning America moments ago
DWTS premieres September 24th on ABC.

Hmm. This is a tricky one.
See, on the one hand, the show’s middle-America audience is one Tinashe could benefit from; as far as making her name mean something to the masses. Indeed, the platform has proven beneficial in this regard for the likes of Normani and Zendaya.
However, unlike those ladies (at the junctures they joined the show), Nashe has been out and about for a notable amount of time. To put it into context, ‘2 On’ – her sole hit to date – dropped four whole years ago. What’s more, the time since has seen her struggle commercially (see: ‘Joyride’) – something that wasn’t the case for the starlets mentioned earlier.
Add to that the fact that “dance” has been her primary USP as a performer and the whole thing feels a bit…baffling.
It’s clear her angle (much like the Mya‘s and co before her) will be “I’m versed in a particular style of dance and the show will be challenge because of the variety.” But, yeah, we’re not buying it.
Ultimately though, a platform is a platform and a check is a check. So, we wish her the best.
IF EVER WE NEEDED PROOF SHE HAS BEEN LABELED A FLOP………
How is she a flop when she was never been top of the charts? If anything this is a come up because she will be on broadcast television and in people’s homes twice a week.
It is not fair when a trained dancer who is very young gets to compete against older has-been celebs. This is like throwing in the towel. Same goes for Tamar Braxton (even though Tamar does not dance) when she went on that show she was throwing in the towel on her career. She went from doing her own theater tour to doing the has-been cruise gigs and gay pride gigs.
Normally I would say this is cheating because she can dance but it levels out with the number of people who will actually vote for her.
Yeah, I always thought it was cheating when Nicole Scherzinger was on there and won. That wasn’t fair. And they used to pair the dancers up with Derek or Val and set them up to win.
at this point… any exposure for her is good
She’s young and talented and can do whatever she wants! I just hope she keeps releasing amazing music because her discography stands against anyone in the game, AND she actually writes it. I’ll be watching 🙂
Girl…. ???
listen to her mixtapes, if you know anything about R&B then you’ll understand
you never hear people that listen to country or rock or metal, hell even Gospel label the artists flops… only y’all self hating r&b and rap fake stans
you mean pop!
Dancing With the Wannabes
I don’t see anything wrong with her doing DWTS. It’s going to expose her to the mainstream audience that she’s been working to get to all this time. And if she plays it right, it will benefit her career.
No one had an issue with Jordan Fisher won last year, and he was a well trained dancer/broadway/singer/Disney kid. But I don’t think Tinashoes is liked enough to gain the votes to make the finals.
The reality is only two types of people know about Tinashe.., people who love edgy, innovative niche artists and people who love to slag off anyone who makes a play for mainstream status and stumbles. I would imagine that outside of these two groups, casual audiences have no idea who she is and I say this as a Tinashe supporter. DWTS is harmless froth tbh and will serve to buy her a bit more time while she figures out who she wants to be i.e. FKA Twigs or Britney Spears. In terms of ‘cheating’, the show always does this as they know audiences want to see a range of skill. What they also know is that buffoonery is just as popular (if not more so) than actual dance talent so it’s unlikely it will give Tinashe an unfair advantage beyond the judging panel. It didn’t hurt Brandy prior to 2/11 and I doubt it will hurt Tinashe’s next outing either, although she might have to skew more musically mainstream immediately after.
I mean it is true as far as her being versed in one form of dance and being totally amateur at ballroom. Ballroom is a whole different BEAST. I think this is actually a good look for her. We all know she’s been flopping and can’t find a song to really stick….although I think “No Drama” and “Throw A Fit” had lots of potential. So, let her take a break from music and concentrate on this and hopefully it will lead to bigger and better things and lots of new fans.
