Kerry Washington has been receiving buzz aplenty for her role in US Broadway play ‘American Son,’ with many touting the possibility of Tony Awards.
Now, Netflix are in the mix. For, it’s been announced that the streaming giant has teamed with the former ‘Scandal’ actress for a movie-like adaptation of the production.
Details below…
Washington made the announcement herself during a visit to ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.’
Much lauded, ‘American Son’ tells the story of an estranged couple – Black mother and White father – who reunite in a Florida police station looking for answers about the whereabouts of their missing teen son.
Topically, the production doesn’t hold back and explores many unconformable, but necessary topics socially.
Billed as a movie-like event, the Netflix adaptation won’t just be a recording of the stage play, it’s being filmed on location for broadcast. Shooting begins next month.
As well as Washington (who also serves as a producer), co-stars Steven Pasquale, Jeremy Jordan and Eugene Lee will reprise their respective roles too.
More power to Ms. Washington!
It’s awesome to see her continuing to find success post ‘Scandal,’ especially with a project that is so important at a time like now.
I am happy to see any black woman shine! Keep it coming Ms. Washington! I can’t wait to see it.
