TV Teaser: RuPaul Readies Launch of Daytime Talk Show [Video]

Published: Wednesday 15th May 2019 by Rashad

Having already captured an Emmy for the groundbreaking VH1 series ‘Drag Race,’ RuPaul is now racing to capture a second golden winged statuette via a forthcoming eponymous daytime talk show (as we previously reported here).

Set to premiere next month, the series – billed as a “celebratory showcase for its host’s ‘distinctive voice, exceptional interview skills, passion for helping others, and inclusive brand of humor that unfolds as a modern take on the talk format’ – will be highlighted by celebrity guests and interviews, a “thematic throughline of self-empowerment through beauty, makeup, and style,” and more.

“This is the show I’ve always wanted to do,” Ru says in a newly unveiled teaser. “We are going to share stories of strength, survival, and love.”

I’ll pass. The problem with RuPaul is that he does not let the audience in on who he is as a person. You have to be relateable to be a successful talk show host. Yeah we know he is gay and a drag queen but nobody knows anything about him like who his closest friends are, what he likes to do for fun, and if he truly cares for younger black drag queens. He has too many walls to be a talk show superstar. Drag Race is a great show because he gets to hide behind his walls under the disguise of a ‘competition’ show.

You should listen to his podcast. He is very open and vulnerable and you learn a lot about his comeup, upbringing, his struggles, and his paths to success, as well as his many downfalls. His best friend in the world is Michelle Visage. This is not drag race. This is not the Rupaul show of yesteryear, this is him being himself not a character, so hopefully we will be able to see more of who he is and where he stands on different issues.

As much as I want to root for RuPaul, he is QUITE problematic. He comes off transphobic despite having a show based on men who imitate women.

He also comes off quite boring. I do not care about his life on the ranch.

Also, he comes off very Oprah. Having nondescript White people that nobody cares about. He comes off cold, shady and standoffish. I may tune in if the topics go viral, but won’t on my own.

Something about this person I find vomit-inducing. Can’t quite put a finger on it …

Nah, she can keep this one. I’m basically over ‘Drag Race’ too lol.

eh… idk about this. just based on the teaser, i don’t quite see anything that differentiates it from other talk shows.
