The supermodel extraordinaire has strut out of retirement to scorch the cover of Sports Illustrated’s 2019 Swimsuit Issue.

Now a mother, mogul, and media personality, Banks hung up her catwalk heels in 2005 to focus on many of her successful ventures.
Yet, in somewhat of a full circle moment, she’s back a-front of the coveted issue.
See, Banks first appeared in S.I in 1996 and in 1997 made history as the first Black woman to cover the Swimsuit edition alone.
Speaking on her return, SI Swimsuit Editor MJ Day said:
“Since Tyra’s first cover in 1996, she’s transformed herself into nothing less than a mogul, a cultural force and a supernova of inspiration and empowerment. She’s kind of the Swimsuit Issue ethos come to life, everything we know this franchise can be.”
The theme of this year’s Swimsuit issue, which features 34 women, is ‘Shattering Perceptions.’ It bills its intent as being to “redefine the cultural conversation around beauty by celebrating a diverse group of women.”
And in spotlighting Banks – a fierce, 45-year-old, force – they are certainly living up to said aim.

Watching america’s next top model today she put those girls thru hell. Making them cry, shaving their hair, making them do things they didnt want to do, all for ratings.
Because of they hadn’t been on the show and had been models in real life they would be calling the shots, deciding on the creative direction of shoots, deciding how to style themselves, where to shoot on location, how many hours to work and what to eat. Yes. The life of a model not on a reality show is sunshine and cupcakes so much easier and care free. Yes. Right. SMH ??♂️
In reality, that is old school thinking. The life of a model is NOT anywhere near what is depicted on that show. For starters, models are not going to be forced to do anything UNLESS they get the gig first and even then the model has the choice to accept the gig or pass on the opportunity. Top Model is setup where the models are FORCED to do things they don’t want to do WITHOUT a secured modeling contract. The old school thinking that models have to do whatever they are told and have to accept whatever gig is offered to them is pre-social media. Unless a model is on the same level as Bella Hadid or Kendall Jenner then really they are just using modeling as a means to obtain 15 minutes of fame and money and they are open to doing whatever they want to do. I have yet to see a serious model with an old school mentality that modeling is all they want in life in the last 15 years!

I loved The Tyra Bank Show & ANTM & for those criticizing Ms. Banks for pushing models to be at their best & to be open to trying new things & do what is needed to in order to give their best, please remember these young ladies signed up for it so they could get their 15 minutes of fame.
