Welcome to Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature wheeled out to examine some of Pop culture’s brightest (and more peculiar) moments.
Today, we revisit the true story of the teenager Gypsy Rose and her doting mother Dee Dee.
When Gypsy is struck down by several illnesses Dee Dee vows to fill her child’s life with the care, joy, laughter and support she needs to make it through the impossibly difficult time.
Alas, things aren’t always as they seem.
What happened when Gypsy found love in a hopeless place?

Take a walk down memory lane with us below…
Wonders never cease.
The weeks following Dee Dee’s murder saw the truth unravel by the world’s eyes and reveal that Gyspy was never ill and was forced to live her life in a wheelchair, eat food via a feeding tube and take large amounts of medication she did not need…all for financial gain.
Here’s my Gypsy Rose Blanchard/The Act hot take: A) her and Nick deserved the same sentence (long or short up for debate). B) she was way more complicit in the scams with her mom than we’re led to believe. Homegirl is manipulative af just like her mom.
