Retro Rewind: Rihanna – ‘Good Girl Gone Bad Live’

Published: Saturday 24th Aug 2019 by David

Let’s take it back to 2007…the year Rihanna became Rihanna.

With two well-received but so-so selling albums behind her, the entertainer stepped into 2007 armed with a fresh batch of hits (some penned with Mary J. Blige, Britney Spears and Nelly Furtado in mind) and a bold new look designed to ensure she stood out when placed next to the bevy of Urban Pop starlets she once trailed behind.

The sum of her reinvention? ‘Good Girl Gone Bad‘, an album/era which saw her dominate Pop’s discourse and cast a multi-platinum shadow on artists she struggled to match on a sales and popularity front just two years before.

Ready to take that journey to the past?

Meet us below…

The era was so impactful that Def Jam felt compelled to give it a fresh set of legs via the ‘Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded’ campaign.

Her Era’s are LOUD and GOOD GIRL GONE BAD. She was Fly. Fashion forward. Took Chances. EACH and EVERY SINGLE was an EPIC MOVEMENT. This is when I stopped and Peeped her and was like—-THIS RIGHT here is a Moment. Everyone was swearing Beyonce’s brown barbie swag was on point…..but RIHANNA was outselling her by the Millions.

    • Meme August 24, 2019

Yep, and even Beyoncé changed her Brown Barbie look look after Rihanna. Beyoncé started to try edgy during the I AM SASHA era. Lol

I think you should give credit where credit is due… in this case the credit belongs to Gaga

      • A&R August 24, 2019

Nah, Gaga is definitely the one that put pressure on Beyoncé lol. The Barbie look worked and kept her and Rihanna separate. Oh but when Gaga started making mini movies with every visual and made it about art… the competitor in Beyoncé stood the f*** up! Hence, them collaborating and we’re still waiting on the one with Rihanna. Damn it?

      • Gworl Bye August 24, 2019

No, it was definitely Rihanna that had beyonce shook and made her step her game up. Gaga was chasing them.

You have to work and use the computer and internet, and if you can do that and dedicate some time each day then you can do this with no problem.
I have been working with this for a month and have made over $2,000 already. let me know if you need more help.

Bey will never be as edgy as Rih because she is guarded. For example Bey’s thigh tattoo removal. When she removed that it was because she was too worried about her image. Her edge always came from being linked to Jay-z. Now without edge Bey is still a legend and that alone is edge enough to me. I always though my Michael Jackson’s style was not edgy in terms of urban edginess but his legendary status alone was all the edge anyone needs. Rihanna is at the phase where she is already an undercover legend and her next album should capitalize and solidify her as a legend to everyone. The rollout can’t be sloppy. It has to be tight so I’m glad she is taking her time with recording it.

This was the album that catapulted her from star to superstar!!! If Britney wasn’t going through what she was going through at the time I wonder how Rihanna career would have went, because umbrella was that song that did it for a lot of people & made people finally say ok Rihanna! I really can’t see Britney singing it & it is said that she was p*** at her team for rejecting it

    • Gworl Bye August 24, 2019

Umbrella was written for Mary J. Blige not Britney Spears.

      • Erica August 24, 2019

Umbrella was written for Britney she firm it down & than it was given to mary who turn it down

      • Erica August 24, 2019

“Umbrella” is a song by Barbadian singer Rihanna from her third studio album Good Girl Gone Bad (2007). It features American rapper Jay-Z, who co-wrote the song with its producers Tricky Stewart and Kuk Harrell, with additional writing from The-Dream. The song was originally written with Britney Spears in mind, but her label rejected it. “Umbrella” is a pop and R&B song with hip hop and rock elements, referring to a romantic and platonic relationship and the strength of that relationship.

      • Gworl Bye August 24, 2019

Google a real source and not fakeipedia please, it was written for Mary.

      • Erica August 24, 2019

      • ??? August 24, 2019

Lmaoooo yup, that certain fanbase swearing she was only good for 15 minutes, and look at where we are now, Billboards 5th biggest selling female artist of ALL TIME, no blond weaves and no bedazzled onesies for Riri just her natural fierceness lmaooo???

    • Erica August 24, 2019

She’s not the 5th biggest selling female artist of all time but go ahead & be great

  4. A&R August 24, 2019

Like Normani, Rihanna just always had this likable quality. It’s that factor you can’t buy. It’s supports the brand but lives outside of it. It’s the very thing that Tinashe lacks and is one of the main things things holding her back. Those interviews just make you want to hug Rihanna. Man..

    • Clarkson August 24, 2019

Dont put normani in the same sentence with Rihanna.
Motivation is expected to debut at number 47, after all the free promo from celebrities, actors, rappers, etc
While seniorita is expected to hit number 1, giving Camila her second number 1.
Now who’s the legend in the making

      • China August 24, 2019

boo….you didn’t get the memo SENORITA is a hit because it’s hot. CAMILA’s career is struggling — SHAWN is continues to be solid. CAMILA will NEVER be a LEGEND. she does not have the VOCALS. STYLE. SWAG needed….she’s………cute

      • Clarkson August 24, 2019

        “Camila’s career is struggling”
        LOL
Billboard hot 100 number 1- Havana ( she was also a lead artist on the song)
Mtv vma video of the year-havana
        Number 1 album
        1 billion streams
Debut album certified plantinum in America
        2 Grammy nominations
        Opened the 2019 Grammy awards.
About to score another number 1 with seniorita

Damn her career is really suffering. Beyonce cant even achieve any of these today.

  5. Gee August 24, 2019

This is the era where Rihanna the superstar was born. From this point on she was a force to be reckoned with.

  6. Yg August 24, 2019

My favorite tour dvd is gggb!!! Love this era!! I’m breakin dishes dishes dishes!!

  7. ??? August 24, 2019

lmaoo yup this was the moment when Queen Riri was born. roach has been shook and trying to keep up ever since, even married a camel to be edgy lmfaooooo ? ?? ?

  8. Clarkson August 24, 2019

Rihanna is a very smart girl with a good ear. She knows which beats are hot, she know which song will be a hit this is something beyonce lacks. Beyonce doesnt have a good ear, she doesnt know a hot fresh beat when she hears it, a perfect example is her using that stale beat for run the world (girls).

Immediately she cut her hair and dyed it black everybody stopped comparing her to beyonce.

  9. Shamari DeVoe’s Tube Top August 24, 2019

    Damn Ciara is a flop

  10. Tyty August 24, 2019

Chile when Rihanna was a trend setter and had an ear for hits…. Gone are days rated r is still my favourite era of hers.
