Tracee Ellis Ross Dishes On ‘Girlfriends’ Reunion Movie: ‘We’re All Open To It’ [#GirlfriendsNow]

Published: Tuesday 8th Oct 2019 by Rashad

This week’s episode of ‘Black-ish’ (October 8) brings with it the highly teased and just as anticipated reunion of Tracee Ellis Ross, Golden Brooks, Persia White, and Jill Marie Jones – the stars of UPN’s iconic 2000’s series, ‘Girlfriends.’

Announced a month ago (as we reported here), the ladies have been on the promo trail since the news was first unveiled in support of the forthcoming feature.  Expectedly, no interview to date has missed the opportunity to inquire about the status of a reunion movie or full on reboot of the television show (as it was cancelled abruptly in 2008 with no official finale).

The most recent chat on the subject came courtesy of ‘Black-ish’ resident star, Ross, as she dished with our friends at ‘Entertainment Weekly’ about what fans of the show can expect from the ‘Girlfriends’ and just what it would take to get a reunion movie in the works.

After filming the featurette above, Ross took to ‘EW’ by her lonesome to dish on how fan participation could help them source the funding they need to make a reunion movie a reality.

Taking to the entertainment mag, she stated:

“Well, here’s what I’ll say. [The hashtag] #GirlfriendsNow is what we decided that we’re going to use and we’re going to try and see what happens,” Ross says. “This is an opportunity for people to speak up for the final time and actually band together and make this happen.”

Elaborating on what a reunion would look like in 2020, Ross said:

“I don’t know, but I think we’re all open to the idea,” Ross says. “I would love it if it’s the right thing and that’s what I think all of us have said. If the script and the story is great and actually does justice for the eight years that we did and the characters and the women that we were…and did justice to what we came from, I think we all would be game.” [source]
