Clive Davis Promises Whitney Houston’s Big Screen Biopic Will Be “No Holds Barred”

Published: Wednesday 19th Aug 2020 by Sam

Whitney Houston‘s life is set to be chronicled in a major way. For, as reported, a biopic about the vocal supernova is heading to the big screen.

Spearheaded by the diva’s estate, the movie – titled ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ – is especially notable because it’s been written by ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’s Anthony McCarten.

In  new interview, Clive Davis – who served as Houston’s career-long mentor – shared that he and McCarten worked on the script together and ultimately let the truth guide their process.

More on what’s incoming from the biopic below…

Speaking with Variety, the legendary music exec said of the film:

“I have a mission here. I have a mission to make sure that for all time that the full picture of Whitney Houston is captured in a no-holds-barred film that is musically rich and shows her genius and more of her character than we have seen to date pin other projects].”

He went on to add:

“There was a fierce competition for the movie. I’m happy to say the reaction to the script was good. Almost every studio head called to tell me about their passion for the project. They know Whitney has been captured and the opportunity here is so special and unique.”

Word is that the film, which is being released by Sony (the musical arm of which houses all of Houston’s catalogue), will also feature original recordings from the star.

It’s a move that gives the production an immediate sheen not present in a number of the other releases centered on the singer’s life.

More than anything though, the promise of raw insights into Houston’s story is what is most appealing to us.

Here’s hoping the end product delivers.

‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ hits theaters Thanksgiving 2022.

Glad Clive is involved, but WHO IS PLAYING WHITNEY?? This is a huge decision. I think Kelly Rowland should certainly audition.

bobby brown is not the only man whitney ever slept with damn, just dont put rayj in the movie please

      • K’’man August 19, 2020

Idk Whitney’s dating history other than Bobby and Ray J. Other things I want discussed in the movie. grams, her brother Gary (his mess), her relationship with her father, I want Cissy Houston character to be the villain in the movie (since that’s how I see in real life), Bk’s drug origins, her doing drugs on the preachers wife set!. Focus more on the mess around her than her music career. That’s what I want!

They’ll have to take Pat’s name off before I’ll believe in the integrity of the film. Isn’t she still working on that morbid hologram horror show?

They need to show her brother introducing her to drugs first and NOT Bobby Brown

    • YaMama August 21, 2020

Yep and show that Bobby was actually emotionally, verbal and abusive to her… public records don’t lie.

      • YaMama August 21, 2020

        *physically abusive

Whitney HOUston was called an ICON, that is what the media called her, she said she didnt know what ICON was. the party wonder how clive the great will end her life..was she killed, will this movie be a mystery ? why were there marks on her leg, would whitney kill herself and be found naked? she was not on crack she had died from an RX. we get sic of ppl saying she died from cocaine,,it was a RX

They would have a tough time finding a logical way to depict Whitney running scalding hot bath water and ending up in the tub with her full body face down in the water with abrasions on her face, legs and arms and burns on her front and back. It is not humanly possible to reenact a person ending up in that condition all on their own. Whitney’s death merited a second look after Bobbi died the same way, but nobody bothered.

Hopefully Clive is true to his word, because he has apart of blame everyone else for Whitney’s mishaps club too. Honestly unless they are going to spit the real truth the good, the bad, and the ugly and hold Whitney accountable where necessary they need to keep this movie.

  8. OOPS August 20, 2020

The Angela Bassett movie wasn’t bad, but the music was Deborah C** trying to sing Whitney Houston songs. ugh.. Give me what the documentary gave me with real Whitney music and great acting. They may need to cast an unknown.

    • YaMama August 21, 2020

That wasn’t really a biopic. It didn’t show much of anything of her life. It was a tabloid take of her and Bobby’s relationship. There’s more to her story than the Bobby Brown years.

Do we really need or even want another movie about Whitney Houston? She’s my favorite artist of all time, & I wish she were still here with us. We knew before she died she used drugs; we don’t care that she was bisexual; & we knew she smoked cigarettes. We know her family history. It’s been 8 years.
