Helmed by Steven Canals and Ryan Murphy, the hit FX series shines a spotlight on the LGBTQ experience during the 80s and 90s through the primary lens of the ballroom scene.
Its success saw Porter honored with the Outstanding Actor In A Drama Series award at the 2019 Primetime Emmys.
However, his comments during a backstage press briefing left some – including Moore – unimpressed.
When presented with suggestion that the trans women from the show were shut out from nominations, he replied:
“I don’t live in bittersweet. I live in the present. I live in the positive. The fact that we’re in the building…is the point. Right? We’re in the building. The world has changed. Period. That’s where we are and now we have another season and now they’ll get their shot.”
Responding to a fan’s prompt for a comment, Moore – who is trans and identifies as non-binary – said:
“For now, I’ll say- I’m not responsible for the ways Billy or any other cis man or person fail to represent, acknowledge or directly support me and the other incredible and brilliant trans talent on our show. I’m also hurt and disappointed, have been for a while.”
