‘Pose’ – with fan devastation in tow after learning the MJ Rodriguez-led show was set to strut across screens for a third and final season this spring – went to ratings battle Sunday (May 2) with a double whammy of a season 3 kickoff.
Marking its comeback with a two-episode showing, the groundbreaking FX series gave fans their first taste of Pray Tell, Ricky, Blanca, Angel, Elektra, and the girls since the wrap-up of season 2 in late August 2019.
As evinced by social media responses, the long-awaited return was showered with critical acclaim. Refreshed Nielsen reports suggest that fanfare was reflected in ratings as well.
Details inside:
Total Viewership = 868,000
Thanks to a duo of episodes, ‘Pose’ sashayed to its highest premiere night viewership to date. While episode 1 courted 498,000, its follow-up secured an additional 370,000 – resulting in a total of 868,000 sets of eyes on the show Sunday night. This total only reflects pure real-time ratings, meaning DVR views – once calculated – will easily push that total over 1 million.
Look below to see how season 3 stacks up to its preceding ‘Pose’ seasons.
‘Pose’ Premiere Night Ratings
Season 1: 688,000
Season 2: 672,000
Season 3: 898,000
With all numbers considered, ‘Pose’ finished fourth among the day’s most-viewed scripted programs – bested only by Hallmark’s ‘When Calls the Heart’ (2.6m viewers), AMC’s ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ (1m viewers), and HBO’s ‘Mare of Easttown’ (918k viewers).
Congrats to the cast and team!
Another reason why the show should continue and not end this season!!
You can’t add the numbers of viewers from ep 1 and 2, those are the same viewers, but a lot left after the 1st episode. It’s premiere was so low rated it was not even in the top 30 for the night, suffering a 53% drop
from last season and never recovering, then dropping 8% more by it’s 4the ep. POSE should have never been made and can’t go away fast enough.
