Phylicia Rashad is on the receiving end of a fiery backlash for her very public support of her legendary ‘Cosby Show’ co-star Bill Cosby, who was released from prison Wednesday (June 30) after being convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman.
The veteran actress, who starred opposite Cosby on his legendary eponymous sitcom for 8 seasons (1984-1992), has made no secret of her support of the embattled comedian and maintained – even at the height of his public scrutiny – that he was innocent of the accusations of sexual assault from over 60 women.
Once news of his conviction being overturned on a technicality reached her desk Wednesday, she took to Twitter to post:
“Finally!!! A terrible wrong is being righted – a miscarriage of justice is corrected!”
While her statement drew mixed responses, most of them expressed disappointment in 73-year-old’s unwavering support of Cosby. Some even called for her to step down as the recently appointed dean of Fine Arts at Howard University – a role that’s not even effective until July 1.
Rashad has yet to respond to the hoopla, but did turn off her Twitter comments to block further input from users.
