Ariana DeBose Becomes First Afro Latina & Openly Queer Woman to Win Best Supporting Actress Oscar

Having already collected best supporting actress trophies at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Screen Actors Guild awards for her role in the critically acclaimed, Steven Spielberg-directed remake of ‘West Side Story,’ Afro Latina actress Ariana DeBose was considered a frontrunner to claim the same award at this year’s Oscars.
