Nene Leakes has been murmuring about taking legal action after being let go from the ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta.’
Well, now the 54-year-old has delivered on her promise – firing off an explosive lawsuit against the various producers of the hit show.
However, some are wondering whether the star has shot herself in the foot.
Full story below…
In the shocking suit, Leakes claims:
“NBC, Bravo and True foster a corporate and workplace culture in which racially-insensitive and inappropriate behavior is tolerated — if not, encouraged.”
Leakes goes on to double down on the notion of racially-insensitive culture on the show – despite the entire cast being successful Black women.
Interestingly, she cites the only ever caucasian cast member in the show’s history – Kim Zolciak-Biermann – as central to her claims of racism.
Leakes asserts that she and other castmates were subject to racially-charged remarks by Zolciak-Biermann; remarks she says she complained to them about.
The suit says that those alleged complaints fell on deaf ears and the parties being sued “did not terminate their relationship with Zolciak-Biermann, nor take any other meaningful action to put an end to her racially-offensive behavior.” Rather she was given a spinoff, show, ‘Don’t Be Tardy,’ which ran for eight seasons on Bravo.
Leakes’ attorney added in a statement:
“From the day the series began filming, NeNe was the target of systemic racism from co-star Kim Zolciak-Biermann, which was tolerated by Bravo executive producer Andy Cohen and other executives.”
Elsewhere, Leakes ropes in Kandi Burruss – who she has routinely thrown jabs at – and stressed that Zolciak-Biermann made racially-insensitive comments about her home (calling it “ghetto”) and used the N-Word in reference to her co-stars. Allegedly.
Interestingly (or perhaps oddly), the controversial star’s remarks come after she and Zolciak-Biermann long mended fences. Per reports, the latter – who herself isn’t being sued – is said to be confused by her supposed role in the suit.
But that’s not all.
The complaint goes on to add that Leakes somehow wasn’t allowed to be a beacon for change during the Black Lives Matter Movement…because of her absence from the show’s 13th season. That section read:
“As the Black Lives Matter movement swept our nation, Mrs. Leakes — Bravo’s historically most successful Black female talent — should have been embraced by NBC, Bravo, and True. Instead, NBC, Bravo, and True forced her out of the ‘house she built,’ denying her a regular role.”
A member of Leakes’ legal team tells THR: “not a day goes by that NeNe doesn’t wake up with an onslaught of overwhelming emotions as a direct result of these unfortunate and avoidable occurrences.”
*********
Easily one of the most known and well-paid figures RHOA (and reality) history, Leakes also accrued much of her wealth and notoriety by way of her sassy “reads” and arguable status as the show’s top agitator/conflict vendor.
It’s led to many online prodding at the arguable irony of the suit.
With that, what are…
