After two seasons of bringing the laughs and the love, Hulu’s heartwarming comedy ‘UnPrisoned‘ will be locked in its vault with no immediate plans for renewal.
Inspired by the life of award-winning author and screenwriter Tracy McMillan, ‘UnPrisoned’ was a half-hour comedy that told the story of “Paige” (Kerry Washington) – a single mom and perfectionist therapist whose life is flipped upside down after her longtime imprisoned father (Delroy Lindo) is freed and moves in with her.
Despite seeing its season 2 welcomed with critical acclaim earlier this year, Washington took to Instagram on Friday (September 27) to confirm the series would not be back for another run.

“This beautiful show that we poured so much of our hearts and souls into is unfortunately not coming back for a Season 3. But I wanted you to hear it from me because while we’re super duper disappointed, we’re also crazy deeply grateful,” she told her 7.4 million followers on the platform before sharing, “We are soooooo grateful to the entire cast & crew – who are not only brilliant and hardworking, but a JOY to work with! Thank you to our fellow producers and all our writers and directors for leading and guiding and inspiring us. Thank you to ABCS, Hulu & Onyx for giving us a creative home. And most importantly, we are grateful to YOU ALL – for watching, laughing, crying, yelling, dancing, eye-rolling, cheering (and all of the things between) along with us each episode. It was such a blessing.”
The series also starred Marque Richardson, Faly Rakotohavana, Jordyn McIntosh, Jee Young Han, Brenda Strong, and John Stamos.
Season 1 and 2 remain available for viewing on Hulu.
FLOP. The show is boring
I thought Season 1 was good. However, I tried Season 2 and haven’t had the same interest in the episodes so far. There’s just a lot of competitive tv programming and I think many people are consumed with politics, YouTube, etc.
