Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans have been confirmed to be on board for the recently announced ‘Scary Movie’ reboot – news of which was first unveiled at CinemaCon back in April.
According to Deadline, the film is being powered by Paramount and Miramax and will commence shooting next year for a theatrical release.
The ‘Scary Movie’ film franchise was developed by Marlon, Shawn, and their older brother Keenen Ivory Wayans. Together, the trio wrote the first two films (2000’s ‘Scary Movie’ and 2001’s ‘Scary Movie 2’) with Keenan also directing.
Huge successes at the box office, the inaugural installments are widely considered the most beloved and fans have been calling for the Wayans’ return since their departure.
Now, that wish has been granted.
Miramax Boss Jonathan Glickman said in a statement:
“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”
Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Wayans added:
“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”
