Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film illuminates the story of Elphaba (Erivo), her layered relationship with Glinda (Grande), and her journey from being misunderstood to embracing her inner power.

In its opening weekend. ‘Wicked’ whipped up a colossal $114 million at the North American box office.

Globally, the film lassoed $50.2 million internationally – making its worldwide launch weekend total an impressive $165 million.

The feat sees the flick deliver the biggest domestic opening weekend for a film based on a Broadway musical, besting ‘Into The Woods’ ($31.05 million). Globally it also reigns, powering past the previous title holder for the biggest opening ‘Les Miserables’ ($103 million).
