‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ Pounces to #1 at US Box Office on Christmas Day

‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ reigned atop the global box office during its opening weekend and now it’s reached the top spot in the United States.

The Barry Jenkins movie has topped tallies worldwide, yet was bested by ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ in the US.

However, strong word of mouth and its family appeal magnetized the Stateside masses to the majestic Disney live-action adventure on Christmas Day. The momentum earned the film the #1 spot with $15 million.

Anchored by Aaron Pierre in the titular role and co-starring Kevin Harrison Jr., Beyonce, and Blue Ivy, ‘Mufasa opened with a gargantuan 122.2 million at the global box office during its launch weekend.
