Serena Williams Opens Up About Turning to GLP-1 Medication for Weight Loss

Serena Williams has always been a force of nature on and off the court, but in a rare moment of vulnerability, the tennis icon is letting fans in on a personal health decision.

Full story below…

The mother and tennis champion revealed that she began using a GLP-1 medication to help shed stubborn weight that refused to budge after giving birth to her daughter, Olympia, in 2017. Despite sticking to her famously rigorous training — from HIIT sessions to dance workouts — Williams says her body simply stopped responding.

She explained:

“GLP-1 helped me enhance everything that I was already doing — eating healthy and working out, whether it was as a professional athlete at the top level of tennis or just going to the gym every day. So I think that it’s important for everyone to hear my story. And I feel like there’s a lot of people that can relate.”

Importantly, Williams stresses this wasn’t about taking shortcuts. Instead, it was about giving her body the extra help it needed. Since then, she says she feels “lighter physically, lighter mentally” — a shift that’s helped her balance motherhood, business, and her many ventures.

She said:

“I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained. It was crazy because I’d never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy and could never get down to where I needed to be at.”

With Williams once again leading by example, this time it’s not about titles or trophies — it’s about normalising honesty, health, and self-care.

    Literally EVERYONE is doing it.

Sadly the health effects will be felt in 10 years time when eveyrone is riddled with bone and regeneration illnesses.

At least she’s being honest about it. She’s retired from tennis. Free to do whatever she wants. I’m sure if people could afford it, they’d go this route. She’ll forever be an icon
