If you were hoping to finally get that raw, unfiltered deep dive into Colin Kaepernick’s story through the lens of Spike Lee, it’s safe to say the doc isn’t making a touchdown.
Full story below…
The multi-part documentary, ‘Da Saga of Colin Kaepernick,’ originally greenlit back in 2020 and set to be a first-person, all-access breakdown of Kaepernick’s journey, on and off the field, is officially off the table.
According to reports, creative tension started to build between Kaepernick and Lee, clashing visions and narrative control
And now, ESPN has stepped in to confirm what many suspected: the doc is done. Over. Shelved indefinitely.
Spike shared a statement:
“It’s not coming out. That’s all I can say.”
ESPN also released a statement:
“ESPN, Colin Kaepernick, and Spike Lee have collectively decided to no longer proceed with this project as a result of certain creative differences. Despite not reaching finality, we appreciate all the hard work and collaboration that went into this film.”
There’s no word yet on whether Kaepernick will pursue the project elsewhere or if this version will ever see the light of day.
