After years in limbo, the action comedy sequel got a major boost when President Donald Trump personally requested that the studio revive the franchise.
According to Semafor, the fourth instalment of the series is benefiting from backing from the White House.
Filmmaker Brett Ratner, who helmed the first three installments before becoming embroiled in #MeToo allegations in 2017, is returning as director.
Word has it that he has grown close to the first family while directing Amazon’s ‘Melania’ documentary.
The back-end of the film’s journey to the big screen is all sorts of unique.
For, Paramount will receive a flat fee to release ‘Rush Hour 4’ theatrically, but won’t be responsible for marketing or financing the film. Meanwhile, Warner Bros., whose New Line label backed the original trilogy, will get first-dollar gross, meaning the studio receives a percentage of box office revenues before financiers recoup costs.
Variety reports that multiple distributors were said to have been approached after Warner permitted Ratner to shop the new ‘Rush Hour’ around town, but none wanted to be attached due to his involvement.
