Awards season is officially heating up.
The Academy has revealed its shortlists across 12 categories for the upcoming 98th Oscars, and two titles are already pulling ahead of the pack. ‘Sinners’ and ‘Wicked: For Good’ have positioned themselves as early standouts, landing on every shortlist they were eligible for, a feat no other films managed this year.
Full details below…
Both projects appeared in seven categories, spanning technical and creative fields like Cinematography, Sound, Visual Effects, Makeup and Hairstyling, Casting, Original Score, and Original Song. Impressively, each film earned two spots in the Original Song race alone.
This year also marks a historic shift for the Oscars, with Best Casting debuting as a competitive category and cinematography receiving its first-ever shortlist.
Final nominations drop January 22, with Conan O’Brien set to host the ceremony on March 15.

No best actor or actress nominations?
Sinners was interminably boring, except for the singing scenes. Didn’t, nor do I intend to, watch Wicked.
You lying sinners was fantastic
Your opinion, not mine.
Film started piquing my interest only when the white vampires sang outside the club. Even the slaughtering scenes looked amateurish compared to ones on Buffy, True Blood, or Interview With A Vampire series.
