Kevin Hart is finally speaking up and out about Tony Hinchcliffe‘s jaw-dropping joke at the comic’s controversial roast

Speaking during a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, Hart made it clear he doesn’t believe Hinchcliffe is racist, following the uproar over comments about George Floyd made during his roast. Hart told the hosts:

“The George Floyd joke, it wasn’t a tasteful joke to our culture, to our audience, but our audience that’s watching the roast, if you’re watching the roast, you get why they’re doing it. You get why the racial humor is on the table…I wasn’t shocked.”

While the ‘Ride Along’ star admitted the material wasn’t something he personally would say, he argued road culture is built on pushing boundaries and making audiences uncomfortable, saying:

“Would I tell those jokes? No. But do I get why they’re being told? Yes. Like, I’m not looking at Pete crazy. I’m not looking at Tony crazy. Like, that’s what… I know what you’re going to do.”

The jokes sparked outrage online and drew criticism from several comedians, including Chelsea Handler, who slammed the set as offensive. Floyd’s family also reportedly voiced disappointment during an interview with The Breakfast Club’s Loren Lorosa.

Still, Hart appears geared to put the controversy to bed, though social media clearly isn’t done debating it just yet.
