Oscars 2017: ‘Moonlight’ Wins Best Picture…Following ‘La La Land’ Confusion

Published: Monday 27th Feb 2017 by David

This is the moment ‘Moonlight’ maker Barry Jenkins discovered that his movie had earned the ‘Best Picture’ award at last night’s Oscars.

Why the shock?

The announcement of the movie’s win came after the cast and crew of the movie ‘La La Land’ made their way to the stage to collect the same award?

Who, what, where and why?

Worry not.

We’ve got you covered below…

‘Moonlight’s win makes it the second lowest-budget movie to bag the award of all time.

Made with $1.6 million, the project comes second to ‘Rocky’ which was built on the back of $1.1 million before Sylvester Stallone and company nabbed the same honour.

Wow. Wow. Warren did it on purpose.

    • LilKimKong February 27, 2017

Acting at its best. The white man tried to snub the black folks once again!

      • Harvey February 27, 2017

It is not as iconic as Mariah’s NYE performance tho… ??????

    • Dayanara Lee February 27, 2017

No, it was Faye who announced it and organizer’s fault for giving the wrong envelope!

    • MariahCarey February 27, 2017

Nothing could top my Times Square NYEve stunt where I blame everyone except myself for not knowing my own songs…dahhhlingggg!!! ?

  2. D February 27, 2017

Why do I suspect that This old man did it on purpose?

    • Lol February 27, 2017

I suspect they want to distract us from Trump and his chaotic admin. Let him clean up the mess he claimed with his racist ol’ fart friends!

Because you’re the person that always wants to complain, even in the face of progress

All done in the name of drawing ratings, press and hype.

  4. Max February 27, 2017

I’m starting to think that “25” was not in that envelope at the Grammys

  5. Meteorite February 27, 2017

This was not an act of racism! It was a mistake on the productions part. They hand Warren Beatty the wrong envelope. If you go back and watch the entire 3 minute clip you’ll see the producers come out and correct the issue. The director of La La Land had the envelope that Beatty had and then moments later if you look in the background when the 2nd and 3rd guy is talking you’ll see and hear the producers come and out say it was mistake and they handed Beatty the correct envelope.

Thank you, everything is racism on this site.

You were actually the first to mention race. Look at the times in which the comments above were left. Sad dog you are.

      • Harvey February 27, 2017

Jada is here…trying to peddle racism!

    • SMH February 27, 2017

Suuuure it was. It’s always a “mistake”, and never racism.

    • February 27, 2017

I agree, but I bet he isn’t going to get hated on at the level of Steve Harvey, and called all types of words that I don’t care to repeat when Steve Harvey made that same mistake, people are Bias and can be really hypocritical and racist.

That was a mess… white people know they shady smh

  7. S****** Blonde February 27, 2017

It was a mistake and neither Warren nor Faye were responsible for it. Both amazing human beings.

    • SMH February 27, 2017

      Lmao.

I’m so glad “Moonlight” was awarded Best Picture! That movie really leaves a lasting impression! People do make mistakes, but I find it difficult to understand how Warren was given a ‘Best Actress in a leading role’ envelope in the first place and if that was the case, how did seeing Emma Stone ( La La Land) result in announcing ‘La La Land’ as the winner for best film? Wouldn’t you expect to ONLY see movie titles (of course without an actors name added) as the winner inside the envelope? Quite confusing…

  9. JD February 27, 2017

The producers wanted attention, I didn’t watch the Oscar’s then I wake up and find this racism vs mistake thing trending, and I’m just like ????? Anyway, congrats to moonlight, it was a good film, the teenage part was the most moving… it told a lot of truth.

    • JD February 27, 2017

No I was like… yawning. The emojis on this sight smh.

Congratulations to Moonlight. It was a good film and definitely the first Oscar nominated movie I’ve seen in years.

  12. Metzo February 27, 2017

“Im afraid they read the wrong name”. Old man, u clearly read ‘Moonlight’ and stumbled, then gave the old b**** to announce it thinking that Lala Land won without her even reading it. U knew all along. Wtf Racism at best.

  13. February 27, 2017

Steve Harvey, is in the clear now. I wonder what they going to call that person who just messed up this award because when Harvey did it they call him some demining names, the disrespect he got even from is own people, it was disgusting, I bet they are going to let it slide this time around because of who did it this time.

  14. JOHNVIDAL February 27, 2017

LOL omg that was an embarrassing mess. Moonlight is very deserving. Congrats.
And then they say there are never surprises at the oscars… look at this win! Yes Moonlight was the second favorite, but at any ppoint of the awards season it lookes like it was going to surpass La La Land. It wasn´te ven a close race like when Boyhood and Birdman fought for the oscar. So this was a surprise. Congrats!
